I need to time mine so that I'm sure both my new direct debits have paid before they switch. I will probably be best delaying my switch until that's happened.

Well I don't think my second DD will have actually paid out (stupid me didn't write the collection date down- it's for a charity and I don't appear to have any paperwork as yet) However, that DD has been set up - it was on the system a few days ago. 1st DD is set up and has paid out....... no panic!!

Actually I don't think the t&cs state that the 2 x DDs need to go out every month (unlike Halifax & Lloyds) - I think they just need to be active, so presumably once they have paid out they could be suspended? (I'm thinking of my Tesco internet saver- wouldn't do that with the charity one)

If it was showing on the system then you ought to be ok, but there was a recent thread where someone was refused the Nationwide refer a friend offer because one of the direct debits did not pay out until after the switch and was therefore not considered to be transferred. It wasn't clear whether it was showing online before the switch date.

Please let us know the outcome.

They don't need to pay out every month. I'm making use of DDs I already have that don't pay out monthly and therefore can't be used elsewhere (e.g. Paypal and a credit card I rarely use).

just in the process of switching and realised they don't have a proper app and a stupid keypad thingy, guessing my switch will last exactly as long as the last payment comes in.

they claim "New Fashioned Banking" just not sure 1850 classes as new.

awful start to this experience, thank god it's not going to be my main account
  • Yes the app is rather limited isn't it! I will definitely be switching away once I've had my £220 out of them .

Why not just keep it for the 6% regular saver? That's what squire a few people do (although I agree that the app and website are awful). And don't mention that awful looking debit card......
  • Yes you're right, I will probably stay for the regular saver!

I might be in the minority here but I really do like the debit card :)

I'm not bothered about the app......still in the dark ages here! but if anyone else is kind of struggling with the very small keypad you can request one which is larger so easier to read the screen and press the buttons....It seemed very teeny after the Nationwide card reader.

The debit card is AWFUL, I'll be embarrassed using it! What are the floating legs in a cup of tea? They must be having a right laugh in the brand department.

HSBC and First Direct also do the 6% saver and with first direct you can save £300 per month.

i'm about to give up on M&S, its not like i shop there anyway, i'm not really their target marker - ie i'm alive. and thier food is pretty awful - beware there use by dates.
