Sitting with the same people? Yes at night, but you could always go to the self service. If not happy you can ask Maitre D' to move you. Breakfast & lunch are open seating.

We're small ship people too. Thomson [Celebration x 3, Dream x 1]. Far more homely and friendly than the shopping trolley ships.

Never had to sit with the same people either. We relax on a cruise, and the self-service restaurant or alfresco self-service is fine for us. Eat when you want, and if you don't like the company close to you then simply move and sit somewhere else. Ditto with the drinking, and general relaxing and entertainment.

Ideal for solo travel, especially if the itinerary is good.

On a cruise, if you fancy a table for one, is this an option?

Sorry if that's a daft question, but I have never been either on a cruise before, or on a holiday alone, thanks

Course you can. You can eat more-or-less around the clock, and every self-respecting cruise ship will have a self-service restaurant, and often somewhere alfresco where can graze all day, and sit where you want.

I first holidayed alone quite a number of years ago, was let down last minute so decided to go ahead on my own anyway - that was to Florence - now I only go on holiday by myself, I absolutely love the freedom to do what you want when you want. There are always people to talk to if you want to and if you don't big deal you are not letting anyone down.

I have mainly stayed in Europe, last year I went to St Petersburg for a week and it was excellent I absolutely loved it and would go back in a minute. I am currently planning to go to New York and Boston this year by myself.

I would highly recommend looking to see if there is a greeter in the destination you are going http://www.globalgreeternetwork.info/ I found them last year and it was very helpful for my time in St Petersburg. Essentially they team you up with a local, who can show you around, explain the transport system, best places for food etc, anything you want to know about the place really. It is a free service and they responded very quickly. I have never done a cruise and I don't quite fancy it.

    Wherever you go enjoy yourself.

    Yes.

Additionally, many cruises have a 24 hour, running buffet, so you can eat, anytime you feel like it.

After years of travelling as a family I took my first trip as a solo traveller in August, Boston for 6 nights :)
I was a little apprehensive, but had a great time and hope to do more solo trips if I have the opportunity

I'm being drawn to a cruise, in my head I am imagining its safe? Ie you can be alone, but your surrounded by lots of people. You can get off for a dander when the ship docks, but am I right in thinking that you don't have to?
  • As a single female I'm in a similar situation - I'm starting to think about solo holidays.

I have a quick question for those who have done it, what do you do about suncream on your back?

There would be some times I would want to swim, or relax in the sun and I burn easily.

Oh my goodness! How old are you? A cruise? That's for the oldies. Pull yourself together!

100% agree with this one. I am in my 50s and still don't think I am old enough to consider a cruise
