I live in Manchester. I'm planning a trip to Svalbard. I'm sure that does not compute with you ;)

Wow...this thread is really bringing them out :)

This has been a really informative thread, for those who travel alone most of the time, and those people like me who just love a few days away by ourselves every so often.

I've taken a few city breaks in Europe over the past few years, and really enjoy the experience of doing exactly what I want when I want to do it. Very liberating.

I hope you find what you're looking for OP. There are many lone female travellers out there who are doing exactly what you are doing.

As for the unpleasant and stalkerish poster who is continuing to post, despite the fact that nobody is interested in his opinions,- I think his bullying and hectoring is massive attention seeking, and best just ignored.

What's that? Being afraid of even going on a cruise or an all inclusive holiday?

Stalkerish? I was already posting on this thread, wherein you have added no useful information at all, other than stating that you are a woman who has to travel on her own.
You are simply restating what I've been saying all along...that she should not be afraid of doing exactly what she wants to do.
Instead she was looking at doing exactly what she did before, when with the family. A safe bet.
    Liberating :rotfl:

i don't think piglet needs liberating.
She's choosing to take the sort of holiday she wants and not allowing herself to be bullied into doing something she doesn't want to do by some strange man who thinks his sort of holiday is the only way to go and keeps trying to hijack the thread . Very odd and attention seeking behaviour. Appears to believe everyone should be free to take any sort of holiday ....so long as it's on his approved list. Seriously odd idea of liberation.

    Liberating :rotfl:[/QUOTE]

    And here lies the explanation.
Nifty assumes solo women travellers have to travel alone rather than choose to ....... I wonder if he makes the same assumption about men travelling alone ?

If your girlfriend told you she was off for a solo trip Nifty would you tell her she didn't have to go as she had you to go with or would you realise that as a liberated woman she might not want you along in this instance and encourage her to go and enjoy having a holiday that was all about her?

Your interpretation of holidaysforme,s post is telling. You immediately assumed that they only holiday alone yet when I read it I interpreted it as she sometimes takes trips solo but like me also enjoys holidays with my partner ....and when I was single with friends. I get more holiday than my partner so often I will take a trip without him. Last one was to the US. He took an interest and even offered to pay for it and kept in touch whilst I was away wanting to hear about my adventures. He didn't feel in the least threatened by my independence. Somehow I doubt you'd be as secure in yourself in the same scenario.

Yeah..I'm odd. Being where i want to be and doing what I want to do. Not wasting money on some boring trip because I'm too scared to do anything else. :)
I wasn't the one who used the word "liberating". I just found it amusing.
Hijack the thread from what? She already decided what she's going to do. She leave the thread to get interesting :)
I'm interested to hear about the trip when she gets back. How liberating it was to be stuck in a 12 sq. m. room costing over £1200 for a week. Money saving at it's best. I'm so proud.
    Liberating indeed.

You should try it sometime. Hot weather seems to make you ratty. I'm sure we've had this conversation before ;)

My girlfriend doesn't go anywhere without me, other than to visit family. Simply because she loves to be able to travel with me....and all of her trips are all about her :)
I always tailor them around what she actually wants...simply because I can go off to do whatever I want later. :)
There are a lot of hopeful "ifs" with your lot. You are also assuming incorrectly, that I think that all solo women have to travel alone.
But my girl gets to do what she actually wants to do. ;)
I'm sure she wouldn't do any of it alone. Perhaps she too would do a mind numbingly boring solo cruise.

    No, we haven't.
I leave the cold to go to the warm weather. So your suggestion is a bit dopey. I can assure you that I'm smiling heartily right now. You are welcome to Svalbard. My Norwegian friend and his girlfriend are here too. So they've made a little more space for you. enjoy.
