I was thinking exactly the same thing!!!

I was thinking, imagine some poor soul posted on the renting a home thread, and Mr Nifty starts into posting all these mansions for sale, beach front bungalows, townhouses, .. The man is unstoppable!!

Thanks, I will check that out.

Oh the irony of single women of a certain age hoping that my girlfriend is imaginary :rotfl:

piglet74 is going to stick out like a sore thumb on her cruise. I look forward to hearing about it, when she gets back. :)
What an utterly appalling waste of time and money....and life. Forty one?!

The whole idea of a holiday is to do what you want as a break from your everyday life , be that at home , back packing across the Gobi desert or going on a cruise. I have no idea why you would think she would stick out like a sore thumb ...because she's travelling alone ? Because she's on a cruise or because she's 41 lol ........

It's a pity that the 'ignore list' function doesn't work on quoted posts too ;)

It meant that you should go for what you want in life without being afraid, as life is too precious to waste.

I am starting to doubt anything you post because I have never met anyone who has travelled as intensively as you claim to have to be so narrow minded and self-centered. Or maybe you are one of those who do travel to exotic places showing no interest whatsoever in getting to know the local population, considering them as only there to serve your needs? I hope not, but that is certainly the type of person you are coming across here.

For your interest, it is actually possible (really really!) to enjoy different types of holidays. I have done both the cruising (and loving it), the single holiday in Spain (and loved it), but also the 'backpacking' type holiday, in places that people would never dare going, immersing myself in the local environment and....loving it.

Choice of holiday is not just about personality, it is also about need and some holidays suit better for these needs. What you failed to comprehend from the start is that Piglet is looking for a holiday to RELAX. Not to make friends, not to experience excitement, not to discover new places, just to relax, which as a single working mum is totally understandable.

Who says that when she retires, she doesn't take on single holidays in the most recluse places? But I bet if she ever does, she won't come on forums accusing those not interested in this sort of holiday to be wimps.

Are you unwell Nifty ? Or perhaps you were drunk when you posted that bunch of bile above ?.

It's no good throwing a tantrum just because no-one is impressed at your boasting and doesn't think your suggestions were appropriate for the OP's needs.

    Few points

Many of the places you suggested are shadows of their former selves -mainly due to people like you and your |style" of holiday. They might be "nice" in your eyes but they were fabulous before the cheap long stayer showed up.

Piglet isn't some unconfident woman so your spite and bullying isn't going to work. Real women do travel solo very successfully As for standing out like a sore thumb on a cruise .......absolute rubbish. Why would you want to undermine or sabotage someone else's holiday plans just because they didn't fall in with your own ideas (which don't fit the OP's criteria in any shape or form anyway) ?

You've probably managed to put people off the Far East rather than promote it just because they wouldn't want to holiday anywhere near people who behave towards others the way you have. Which actually is a great shame.

You could have added great value to this thread and inspired people (even Piglet - just because she only wants a week this this doesn't mean she won't want a longer trip in the future) instead of making it all about you and your temper.

I've always thought your posts I've seen before were useful and even inspiring - but clearly something in this thread hit a nerve and we've seen a very different side of you.

I think you owe piglet an apology.

    How very true

I used to work as a travel agent in the days when they sold travel and not just all inclusives :)

It wouldn't be uncommon for my wealthier customers to do two or three weeks somewhere exotic and adventurous for themselves as a couple, a more mainstream beach holiday or cruise with their kids and some short breaks either home or away as well as the obligatory sking over New Year .......completely different types of holidays but clearly they enjoyed the variety.

My idea of hell would be two weeks in an AI I'd be bored out of my brain but 3 or 4 days in a beach resort to relax and take a break suits me fine and is recharging. My last holiday included a road trip from Salt Lake City to Vegas as well as some time in California - mix of busy and restful within the week away.

piglet as a working single Mum is probably very busy and a week of relaxation hits the spot whereas if someone is retired and lives a less active and mundane life at home then they don't want relaxation - they want/need a contrast.

I've cruised, I've toured all over North America (anything from working a charity event in Idaho to a city break in NYC), explored rainforests , skied, done theme parks, worked on a kibbutz , toured Ireland, taken city breaks all over the UK and Europe and done the sun, sea and sangria holidays, island hopping in Greece and on and on each has good memories -some more than others but each fulfilled a need at the time - some were active, some relaxing - most a mix of the two because I've learned that's my preference but I don't expect everyone else to have the same preferences -or even want to spend money on holidays if they'd rather spend it on something else. Thankfully we are all different and our tastes vary.

You only have to look on trip advisor -one person's palace is another's hellhole. I hate huge hotels and find smaller especially family run hotels more to my taste yet someone else might find my quaint choice unsophisticated and lacking in the spa and hot and cold running room service 24 hours a day that I don't want or need- their nightmare holiday.

OP, I'm female and I frequently go away by myself and have done for several years - I absolutely love it and find it very empowering - I hope you do too :-)

I've never done a cruise so I can't offer any practical advice I'm afraid. It does sound fab and chilled though (and before our lovely friend above gets involved - actually I do also enjoy backpacking around Asia for months at a time too!).

As for personal safety, just take the same precautions that you would at home, and you will be fine. Trust your instinct too.

You mentioned in one of your first posts that you fancied Sicily. I was with a (female) friend when I visited, but it's certainly somewhere I would have felt safe alone, and it's a beautiful, wonderful place which I'd highly recommend.

I hope you have a lovely holiday :-)
