Just because I am not chomping at the bit to go to Thailand for three months does not make me a wimp.

A wimp would have posted something along the lines of, "I am so jealous of all your holidays but I am afraid to leave the house alone"

And you cant see my character, but yours is coming through as a man who shoves his opinions down peoples throat.

You have no advice to offer, as you are not a female travelling alone, and your that wrapped up in yourself, I am not surprised you travel alone!

Ps, I have been to Miami, I didn't say I wasn't interested in it! And you didn't set me up with a challenge, I'm not one bit interested in Asia, what you are doing is ramming your ideas down peoples throats.

Goodness me..you are having a proper hissy fit :D

Where did I write that I am travelling alone?! My girlfriend is with me on most of my trips :)
I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but you are the one having to travel alone.
Perhaps one could turn it around and suggest that your attitude may explain quite why that you are single.
Though I happen to have met a lot of women travelling on the own...all over the world.
Not trying to recreate on their own what they once did as a family. Move on.
The beach in Thailand was but one of my suggestions. These are but examples of alternatives to your boring and 'comfort zone' oriented suggestions. I also suggested the Camino de Santiago....good for clearing the mind and having some time alone with your thoughts.
...and yes, I can see your character piglet74. :) Rather quick to jump to conclusions. Particularly defensive.... and a big scaredy cat.

Banging on about not wanting to go to Thailand, when with your criteria, it actually makes no difference to whence you go, since likely you'll be stuck inside the resort, too scared to go outside where the real people exist.

I didn't say that you weren't interested in Miami, just I didn't think it sensible to recommend Z Ocean Beach to you at £340 per night..
Remember that you haven't stated when you'll be travelling. So I'm came up with a suggestion for the near future.

So, little piglet74, take it easy. It sounds like you really need a holiday. When do you plan to go? ;)

P.S. I can see that some of the women here of a certain age have got their hackles up. :)

That is a really patronising post.

Everyone has their own style or best fit for travel and holidays. After making a suggestion that doesn't suit most people would simply accept that their ideas differed. You seem to take it personally.

I wouldn't backpack either, nor would Thailand be top of my wish list. You clearly love it, the OP made it clear it was not for her, that doesn't mean she is a wimp, a scaredy cat or any of the other charming epithets you employed, any more than I am.

Another one(for the want of a better word) who thinks that I have suggested backpacking?
There are falling of the cliff like lemmings on this thread.
Try reading beforehand if you wish to make relevant comment.
There is absolutely no doubt that she is a scaredy cat :)
...and with a name like AndyPandyBoy...I'll reserve comment about you. ;)

Regardless of whether you actually suggested backpacking, or indeed whatever it was that you suggested, the OP made it clear she was not interested. That didn't seem to be enough for you, quite why I am unsure. It wouldn't do for us all to enjoy the same type of holiday.

The OP may be unused to travellling alone, may be unsure of where to go, may have her own ideas of what she is comfortable with, why does that concern you enough to make you feel the need to call her names?

As for my user name, I assure you it is not indicative of very much at all, more of an old family joke.

I think it is time you accepted that your suggestions were not what the OP wanted and moved on. Perhaps a dip in the sea would restore your equilibrium?:D

Sweet baby Jesus, he just cant stop himself.

Niftydigits, (and you have the nerve to laugh at anyone else's name!) your input is neither helpful or required

The question, at risk of repeating myself, was directed at females travelling alone, which you clearly are not. Unless you want to ask your gf, because at the rate your going, she will be coming home without you.

Me, I vote for the cruise!
If you can wait until not-exactly last minute that is when deals are to be had, but sadly they are generally aimed at 2 sharing a cabin and often a singleton pays exactly the same as 2 folk together.
I think most cruises get their monies in full about 12 weeks before departure- so that's when they know when there will be empty cabins sailing come what may.
If you are interested get on the e-mailing list for cruise specialist travel agents- they get the deals and they also give a teeny bit of discount.

Of course you don't have to get off the ship. I have been on cruises where guests did just that- they never stepped ashore! The ship will run excursions and if you go on those you are guaranteed that whatever happens the ship will wait for you! Often you can just wander about the quayside or get a shuttle bus into port/ town/ city. You do as little or as much as you like, and you always have passing scenery.
It is a very safe environment and there is the potential to make friends, learn a new activity, see somewhere new, or not- the choice is yours.
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

    Thanks Katie,

I'm starting to head more towards a cruise I think. If you book well in advance would you get the option of a single cabin or single fare?

I have been looking at Royal Caribbean and even booking far in advance, you pay x 2 fares, even for one person.

Bless you and the others who didn't read or comprehend. Look at the whole post in context.
Decide what you would really like to do on your holiday and then you can find a place where you can do it. If a cruise is what you want, then go for it. But don't go for a cruise because you are too scared to do what you really want to do. That's a waste of time. money and your life.
Go backpacking. Stay in a hostel. Go on a pilgrimage to the Camino de Santiago.
A cruise? Are you joking? Have you given up on life?

It didn't mean that you should literally go backpacking. It meant that you should go for what you want in life without being afraid, as life is too precious to waste.
Understand now? That's why I wrote that if a cruise was what you really wanted, then go for it.

But then the conversation got sidetracked into what backpackers actually do these days. Flashpacking was mentioned. They weren't actually suggestions for you, but illustrations of where backpackers and flashpackers actually stay.

So for yourself and the few hangers on who didn't bother to read through the thread, the suggestion was never to go to Thailand for three months, but to not be afraid to do what you actually want to do. If you actually want to spend your money on a cruise, then so be it.
The fact that I tease you about being a wimp is done in good humour....and just for good measure...my girlfriend wouldn't travel anywhere without me. So I have a perfect understanding of how you might feel.
It still doesn't mean that I would recommend such a sad course for you. Stuck on a ship in a tiny room. I imagine bigger and better things for you. :)
Notwithstanding, I hope that you have a very pleasant time. Just try to read and digest before flying off the handle. ;)

Please stop surmising that you know what I actually want to do,

You seem to have this notion that I would secretly love to have breakfast in the rainforest, but I'm too much of a wimp for that so I'm going to settle for a cruise as some kind of second best.

I think I made it clear that I am not interested in your suggestions, once again the thread was aimed at females travelling alone, If you could please read and understand that, you would know to stop posting.

Why dont you go and find a thread looking information on how to retire in your 20s and shove your opinions down peoples throats, then post on it until your heart is content, or until it is time to jet off on your next three month break.
