Vintagegal I never find anything in Charity shops either. All my local shops seem to be full of overpriced clothes that come from places like Primarni in the first place.Mortgage Dec 2015 - £21545 Apr 2016 - £19930

Yes good point, the fees are quite ferocious these days aren't they!
Clarey08, charity shops round here are the same. Tired things that were cheap in the first place. That's why I wondered if people were going in ten times before they unearthed a treasure. Maybe it takes perseverance? Or going to a nicer townFashion on the Ration 2020 - 5/66 spent0 -

I for one go into Charity Shops a lot - I certainly don't find a good bargain every time I go in - I really enjoy the browsing even if I don't find anything so for me it doesn't feel like a chore. I'm a veteran now so can "scan" them really quickly.Shifting my energy for 20200 -
I'm usually quite lucky with charity shops. Where I used to work, it was the posher end of town and we were surrounded by about 8 charity shops. Now I'm in the city centre there aren't quite as many, but if I ever get anything 'designer' it's usually from a charity shop. This will sound wrong, but the only one I'm not keen on is Oxfam because I feel they over-price their stuff. If it's still got the original labels on, then maybe yes, charge a little extra but when it's clearly used I think they charge too much. Cancer Research could be the same occasionally, but I find they're more reasonable now. My main favourites are Marie Curie (near where I used to work) and our local hospice shops which are all over the city.
On the subject of my own purchases, the skirts mentioned in my previous post went back. I went out with friends last Friday and found myself lacking in nice 'going out' tops (given that the weather has changed for the better, although Friday itself was disappointing). I have a number of dresses, however. But I'm in desperate need of a clear-out, be it to charity shops, eB*y or both.SPCNo.18 #20 (17 £562.86 16 £678; 15 £1120.92; 14 £416.53; 13 £191.52; 12 £260.48; 11 £480.95; 10 £682.31; 9 £442.64)

Well that's quite interesting about different 'brands' of charity shop. Hadn't really occurred to me because when I am donating, my criteria is a) can I park outside? And b) are they nice to me in the shop?
I have been sighed at before when trying to donate and only allowed to drop off one bag! Maybe I look like I am trying to offload stuff they wouldn't be able to sell...Fashion on the Ration 2020 - 5/66 spent0 -
Vintagegal I donate to my local Barnados donation centre (who sift & sort for various shops) or my local hospice chain (on principle because hey aren't state funded). Both are always grateful and have parking2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Yes mavvymoo, I wear dresses about 99.9% of the time for just that reason!
I always thought that charity shops didnt put the stuff you donated straight out on the rails, I thought they sent the good stuff to nicer areas where they felt they could charge more, or online. I thought the chances of finding anything other than Primark was slim, but you guys are proving me wrong!
Have you ever been to one of those clothes swap parties? I went to one a few years ago, maybe they are out of fashion now. It was awful, second hand sports bras for example. I actually brought home the dress I had taken with me :rotfl:Fashion on the Ration 2020 - 5/66 spent0 -
