Sofarbehind, I am pleased that things do not feel so bad today:D

Floss - I like Phase Eight clothes so will keep a look out for them.

VJsmum, Maisie M, LL, Maman - thank you for your thoughts. This is the second winter that I have kept these things as the weight loss started at the end of 2014 when I became severely iron deficient and completely lost my appetite. This has all been checked out and nothing sinister going on, but connected with a long term and forever condition and gastritis. I came to the same conclusion as Maman and think that particularly lined trousers will cost too much to alter as they would need someone who does tailoring rather than just taking in.

This week I will be going to a "big town" in an attempt to buy a pair of black and dark denim boot-cut jeans, the rest will go on to my CS wish list and I will play a waiting game until I find them.

I follow Marie Kondo (great thread on here:D) and I am sure I will feel better when it has all left the house, as soon as "my" CS will take them the summer things will follow, I don't expect to achieve Project 333, but I am now feeling more positive and looking forward to a lighter life.

Maddiemay I am sure that I have seen a comparison of clothing sizes across different companies - I will try & find it for you to help your search. I've found continental companies to be smaller sized if that helps.

  • Thanks LL Great idea about using a drawer for clothes not yet ready for washing.

Wecome Mary It sounds like you have an interesting year ahead of you.

Sofarbehind I do get to the gym - not as often as I should for the money it costs but I never do 2 classes after each other. I may swim slowly but that is it. I saw a stroll your way to fitness in the free mag 'smart weight watchers' with last Sat Mail. May be worth you looking at. Week 1 days 1 to 3 Low intensity walk 10 mins day 4 optional rest day days 5 and 6 Low intensity walk 15 mins day 7 rest day. Day 8 Low intensity walk 15 mins Day 9 Low-Mod intensity walk 15 mins repeat days 8 and 9 for days 10,11,12 and 13 rest day 14. More in Mondays booklet (which I don't have) I am sure you will be able to find similar plans on line.

Taken a few items out of the wardrobe and put into charity bag. A start.

    Hello fellow fabbers

I have just read all of the previous posts and now I feel so inspired by you all and have set my own fabbing goals for 2016

    1. Lose enough weight so that I can wear all of my clothes. Goal is to wear my smallest size 14 top and my smallest size 16 skirt and my new bras and briefs

    2. Do some new creative writing - gives me confidence

    3. Do my nails at least once a week

    4. Improve the condition of my nails and hair by eating healthy and taking fish oils every day

    5. Get at least 7 or 8 hours sleep each night

    6. Wear make up on nights out more often. I only wear mascara, eye shadow and lip gloss, so it is a 10 minute routine

    7. Do not wear all over black, always add colour to a piece of black clothing

    8. Look after my feet

    9. Walk more each day. Use my trainers

I already wear perfume every day. I was in my forties before I discovered that Red Door by Elizabeth Arden was the perfect perfume for my skin

I wear jewellery every day. I have silver jewellery for every day and solid gold jewellery for nights out

I always wear shoes with heels but can not manage more than 3 inch heels comfortably. Even my winter boots are 2.75 inch heels

That's a brilliant list sugarbaby. I had a few problems with my nails earlier in the year. I'd recommend a tip (I think I got from LL) that you keep some manicure bits by your favourite chair. I found rubbing cuticle oil in regularly of an evening and handcream worked wonders.

Thanks for all the thoughts on moisturisers. I have used a bit of bio oil indoors but I think any oil would be too greasy for me if I was going out/wearing make up unless I could wait a while for it to soak in. Fortunately it's only Aldi making my eyes sting but odd it's never happened before, maybe you're right floss and the recipe's changed. What I've done is buy a Benefit moisturiser. I've used it before when I had a set of skincare samples from them with some make up I bought. They have a money back guarantee if it doesn't suit so I'll give it a try.

Well I said I was going to look in the sales and amazingly ended up with two pairs of flat boots. They aren't as chunky as they look in the photos but at just £20 a pair it would have been rude not to buy them!!:rotfl:

One pair would have been enough but I thought the red ones would look good with black. I don't like the chain at the back but I can tae that off.

And I picked up my new PJs from White Stuff so quite a good day on the fabbing front:D.

Thanks for the separate drawer and the soap ideas LL. I like to look after my clothes. A couple of years ago I enjoyed covering all my coat hangers. It was a fun craft project and it's good for my clothes.

Hope the house is what you want. There'll be one out there for you. I often think of you when watching Homes under the Hammer, they often go to your area and the housing stock is amazingly varied.

Maddie, when you've bought your new jeans I recommend you buy some dark wash liquid and always wash the jeans inside out. I love black/dark jeans but had problems keeping them dark until I bought this stuff. I get mine from Waitrose but I think Tesco do it too.

    Hi everyone

So glad I joined you as it has got me thinking about things especially clothes.
I have loads of clothes but I still find it difficult to find something to wear when I am going out and end up buying something new.

I think the big problem I have is I buy on impulse and then regret it and then don't want to throw it away because I have hardly worn it.
I really need to get rid of the things I do not wear as I have no room for anything else and everything is either squashed together in the wardrobe or hanging on the back of 2 bedroom doors or in suitcases.

I also have lots of items that no longer fit me as I have put on weight and again as I am hoping to try and lose some I don't want to get rid of them.

I think I need to try and be ruthless and give some to the charity shops.

I will let you know how I get on.

    Thanks for listening.

I really recognise where you're at mary. I know some people just enjoy shopping but sometimes (without doing too much cod psychology) it's a case of retail therapy because you want to cheer yourself up or try to disguise the fact you're not happy with your shape/size.

I don't know if you've read Marie Kondo's book about tidying up. It can be a bit airy fairy for some tastes but I found it really helpful. Put briefly, she suggests going through your wardrobe and deciding what really gives you joy and discarding the rest. That's a bit drastic but you get the idea.

For the things that don't fit, I'd advise it's those that should be in the suitcases but only special things. Then try and adopt the same principle or a bit of mse when you're in a shop. So ask yourself either does it really give me joy or do I need it or just want it?

To that I'd add the 'cost per wear' principle. If something is 'hardly worn' whether to discard it depends on how much each wear has cost. I bought a jumpsuit at Christmas for £25. Not something I'd wear often but I've worn it twice, have been invited to a party/disco in March where I'll wear it again and maybe I'll take it on holiday and wear it a couple of times. So 5 wears at £5 a time to be appropriately dressed is OK by me. If when you needed something for a party and someone said would you pay £5 to look good tonight you'd bite their hand off! ;)That's just an example of 'occasion' clothes but everyday stuff would probably be more like £1 per wear.

I'm doing fab Friday. Had a shower and all the trimmings. Only smart casual but when I go out I'll wear my black skinny jeans with black quilted jacket and maybe my new red boots!:D Not sure about a top yet, maybe a jumper as it's getting a bit colder and perhaps red or tartan scarf. I've put my new moisturiser on and so far no ill effects. Haven't used eye cream as I want to 'test' one thing at a time.

I forgot about fab Friday I'm still haven't organised myself yet
Your outfit sounds lovely maman and I second your advice about konmarie it's an amazing system.
I'm feeling pretty good about myself today, it's not been physical fabbing but mental, I have managed to repair a couple of things I've been putting off because I didn't think I could do it. Well I've managed and it's given me such a boost I'm going to set up my sewing machine and learn how to use it.
I am really going to try and learn some new skills this year as I think my self esteem needs a bit of a boost. I don't work, even tho I would love a job it just isn't possible at the moment, and I feel lazy because of it even tho when I think about it I do quite a lot, all the cooking, cleaning and organising that goes into having a houseful of 5 adults(ish) and looking after my DGD so my daughter can work.
So this year is going to be my year to get my brain in gear and hopefully when I feel better about myself the weight will start to come off and even if it doesn't I will still feel happier and feel better in myself.
konMarie and fabbing all the way
