Hi
I'd like to join you
I have a large house (with OH, DD, 2 big dogs and a cat) but it is still full to bursting and it is starting to really annoy me. When I was younger I felt comforted by being surrounded with my own 'stuff' - maybe because I had very little growing up. Now I feel oppressed by it and a lot of it simply must go.
The top floor of the house is a single room (35'x12') with eaves loft storage down both long sides. It is fullEvery time I go up there it raises my blood pressure just looking at it. We have lots of office furniture type storage but the sheer volume of paperwork we keep is ridiculous so I have started to weed. I have every credit card & bank statement, wage slip, bill, tax code note, major item receipt, instruction manual, insurance doc, etc ever received. Some date back to the 80s!!! I know you need to keep 6 yrs worth for tax (I had a sole trader business on the side for a while and OH had to start his own company as an IT contractor this year) but we just hoard everything. It has to stop.
Having lost some weight last year I made a start on the rest of the house and sorted through the first section of my wardrobe. I removed anything that was too big (so I can't slip back into it), unflattering, or hadn't been worn in living memory:
3 prs trousers to clothing bank
5 prs jeans to CS
3 prs trouser, 3 tunics, 3 skirts, 1 gilet to list on eBay as good brands. Some brand new
DD (now a teen) got in the swing and found 10 kiddie CDs for the CS. Next she needs to go through the DVDs with the same eye.
Around 100 videos went in the bin as even the charity shops don't take them now.
Next step is the paperwork and books. I got a kindle last year and have taken to it really well, even buying some kindle books that I already have in paper form as they are really big and uncomfortable to hold and I do re-read them.
Gardening books are a challenge - I probably have over 100 plus years worth of magazines as I studied horticulture and garden design and then had a small business for a while. A lot of the books were gifts. Maybe they might eBay in job lots but they are all heavy. Will have to have a hard think about them.
Onwards and upwards - I have visions of the house rising from the ground as we shed the weight of stuff.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

Mally I have just sent some books to webuybooks.co.uk They took gardening titles. I`m really pleased because I posted the parcel on Monday and the cash was in my account by Thursday! They dont give you a lot per book but they pay the postage so I effectively got more for them than if I had taken them to a carboot sale and stood in the cold for 5 hours.0
