  • I applied yesterday and got the message that my application will need to be reviewed. Like a few others, I was previously rejected for Advance account for unknown reasons (other than HSBC being very picky), so have tried the basic account this time.

    Fingers crossed...

Yep just the same as me,not even an e-mail acknowledgement of application...will just wait and see if any letters appear this week.

Probably a couple of weeks really, but it seemed longer!!

  • I applied the probably on 10th Jan and, like others, received no acknowledgment, just the website message that they would consider. On 13th Jan I was sent a note by Equifax that a credit search had been done. So I suppose I'm simply now waiting for the postman. I applied online because I prefer that option.

    We'll see what happens.

After being declined the Advance account last summer (and due to be issued a Bank Account instead, which I cancelled), I've been accepted this time around. Received a load of paperwork today and two forms to send back.

And then they say they'll open the account!

And then they'll send me my debit card etc.

And then I'll need a secure key or whatever they call it.

Hopefully I'll be 'banking' with them by the end of the month!

    Talk about long winded!
A nice outcome...but having not heard anything back from them yet I had to find it myself!

Tried to log in just now using my very old, first time around, HSBC security details (IB customer number, first school, and old secure key unit with 6 digit PIN) today and they were accepted. I can now see my new Advance account online.

Will be initiating a switch shortly by phone, and will try and bag the credit card (with it's £25 cashback offer). If accepted (and I'm not holding my breath!) and the limit is good I'll make a BT. If not, I'll make a purchase, grab the £25, and close it!

    Thanks.

You'll have to let me know if you receive a contactless card as standard, HSBC seem very unsure when I asked.

I guess my account opening has been a lot quicker than some others on here.

I applied for mine over the phone a few days ago and went into branch today to show some ID and it's now fully open and i've got my account number and sort code.
I'm going to sort out the switch in just a few days over the phone, although the lady at the branch kept trying to pressure me into doing it in branch and insisted that i take her business card. I'm guessing they have some sort of targets or commission on things like account openings and switches.
  • Applied online on about 10th Jan. Credit checked on 13th Jan, and letter posted to me giving me my account number, sort code and welcome pack on 13th Jan. Received it today.

Now waiting for debit card etc.

So far ... so far, this has been one of the quickest and easiest account openings. Am hoping, of course, that everything else progresses as well!

Don't have a spare current account. What is the fastest account I can open to then immediately switch?
