7 days after applying on line got a letter today saying to go into a branch with form of I'D and Utility bill..so they can "continue the process"
Has anyone managed to get an account open when they have gone in with ID ?
Can the switch only be done in branch ?
No HSBC in my town so it's travel costs etc every time I visit a branch, would be so much easier if it could all be done in one go...must say the best I have ever switched with was the Halifax, all done in one appt, account open, switch about 7 days later.Done.0 -
Wouldn't bother trying to ring HSBC today as a potential new customer....gave up after being on hold for 20mins..0

This offer seems pretty sneaky in retrospect. You have to start the switch process within 30 days of the account opening, which sounds like lots of leeway. In actuality, it was pretty tight. You have to wait for them to send you your account details (over a week for me), then start the switch process but you need to wait for them to send you a pack in the post and call you back a week later before the process can be considered "started". If I don't get that call back when they said I would, I'll likely miss the window and have to send an angry letter.
If it wasn't for the fact you don't need your telephone/online banking details to start the switch it probably wouldn't even be possible!0 -
When I applied online (22nd Jan), it let me pick a switch date (earliest, 16th Feb) and provide the details for it.0

Were you immediately accepted online then? I was told I'd hear back, then got an acceptance letter over 2 weeks later, so obviously I wasn't asked about switching during the online sign-up process.
I dont believe so. Here is the final screen from the application:

Sorry for broken link, I'm not yet allowed to post links.0 -
Had already been accepted with sort code and account number...just back from the nearest branch (half hour bus ride). The staff finished it off for me, got me on the internet and the cashier will ring in the morning to see if all OK. Sloppy start, brilliant finish.
(Its been a good last seven days...three pay-outs and two new switches.)0 -

A further update, he received a letter from HSBC yesterday asking to call regarding the switch.
I don't think I've ever heard of this before. Have you recently changed jobs or your income increased greatly?
No new job for years...not sure if i can be bothered with all this pahh..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
