HSBC have a message on their website:
Please note: Due to high volumes it is currently taking longer than the normal 7 working days to confirm the decision on online applications. You may find it quicker to apply by phone or in branch.

It's not displayed on the mobile site.

You would still expect applications online to still be live regardless of the volumes.

I applied and hadn't heard anything then I got a letter from them.

"We are pleased to enclose the information you requested" and a £120 switching offer terms and conditons booklet.

I didn't ask for that, I just want an account. Do I assume in a few more days the account stuff will come through?

I received the same as you, so I called HSBC last Saturday. They advised that I visit a local branch between Monday-Friday to take my ID in.

I did that today. I went in and explained the situation and showed them the letter they sent me and a print-out of the screenshot of my submitted Advance account application.

I was in and out of there in 5 minutes - very impressed with the service in branch. The adviser sorted it out and confirmed that I'd been accepted for the Advance account. I am going to sort out the online banking tonight and will arrange the switch and the 6% regular saver.

Received info informing that HSBC current account opened, which took about a week to arrive.

Now have to switch which means going into branch or phoning. No online option.

Received a letter saying something like "thank you for your interest in our accounts" and including a leaflet with more information. Got another letter regarding their phone banking system.

What the fudge? I applied to open an account online, not for more information. That was over a week ago, so I have no idea when I'm going to get account details, etc.

I got the same 2 letters today, but already received 1 with account details and 1 to confirm my tax status yesterday. My more information one was about the switching offer.
