Given the current switching offer from HSBC there's probably a backlog of applications.

I applied online last week (granted we've had New Year in between) and I've yet to hear from them either.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

After being declined the Advance account last summer (and due to be issued a Bank Account instead, which I cancelled), I've been accepted this time around. Received a load of paperwork today and two forms to send back.

And then they say they'll open the account!

And then they'll send me my debit card etc.

And then I'll need a secure key or whatever they call it.

Hopefully I'll be 'banking' with them by the end of the month!

    Talk about long winded!

Well I'm glad you've finally been accepted for their account.

I received a letter from them today declining me based on their "scoring system".

Will wait six months and see if the offer pops up again-at least I *should* have £157.50 from the Co-Op/TCB to look forward to!

They also told me they would be in touch...sigh..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

I applied and hadn't heard anything then I got a letter from them.

"We are pleased to enclose the information you requested" and a £120 switching offer terms and conditons booklet.

I didn't ask for that, I just want an account. Do I assume in a few more days the account stuff will come through?

Is there a minimum time you have to have the account open, or once I've got the £120 can I shut it down?

I have had a look at the T&C's posted above but I'm either missing it, or it doesn't say.

Sigh, really? Even for a bog-standard basic account?

Do HSBC ever given an immediate decision if you apply online or does everyone get the standard we will get back to you within the next 7-10 days type of thing.

I have had exactly this. No letter telling me my account was opened. I also had a form to send back for a security number, even though I already have one as I already have a HSBC credit card and online access. I log in, and my new account is there, but no option on how to switch my old account to it. Presumably awaiting another form to come through.

HSBC seem to be stuck in the 90's.
  • After reading some of the above, I was slightly concerned as I had received the message about hearing from HSBC within 5 days. However I received a letter confirming acceptance on Friday, called into the Glasgow office with identification and address verification on Saturday morning. I was dealt with very efficiently and promptly by a young man called Aaron, who completed set up of the account, organised secure key reader and telephone and internet banking. I should receive a debit card within 3-5 days and then will complete my switch. So far I am very impressed with the service.
