"So, applied for this on 13th Feb 2016 , had "your application has been accepted" letter dated 15th & sent off the enclosed Signature record form. Had a 2nd letter dated 16th wanting Customer Security Form filled in to be able to send me access to Internet / Telephone banking. Filled in & posted 22nd and since then ....... NOTHING.
Assuming 13th was my"open" date, I very much doubt if I'll get my existing switch within the 30 days now - just tried phoning to see what the delay is and if I can do it by phone - and there's a 25 minute waiting time on their help line......
I've recently switched 2 other accounts from / to other banks & they all went smoothly & very quickly - is this a sign of what is to come with HSBC? Should I give up now & find a new home for my money?? "

UPDATE - after 19 minute phone call, found out they've "not received" my initial Signature Form - so I've now got to find time to go into a branch with photo ID to sort that out. They tell me they've sent me two letters - welcome pack etc, plus a letter saying no sig form received so couldn't set up online / telephone security - so that's got to be re-set.
Oddly, neither of these have reached me....
For info to anyone else having problems, the 30 day switch window is from opening day until the day you START the switch - wrongly, I though it was until the day the switch completes.... so I still have a few days grace ...
Pretty helpful on the phone so they've gained back a few Brownie Points from me - still not 100% happy....
  • The HSBC switch incentive t and c's say that the switch must be "completed" within 30 days of the date of the account opening, but they don't define what is meant by "completed". I took it to mean that a switch is completed on the date set for the switch to take effect, which is a minimum of 7 days from starting the process. Good to hear that HSBC are interpreting their own t and c's in a way favourable to the poor customer. Maybe an indication that they recognise that their latest switching offer has been a shambles.

Interestingly M and S Bank (a joint venture with HSBC) also require a switch to be " completed" within a certain period (in their case, 3 months) if account opening date. Presumably the same lawyer drew up their terms as the HSBC one :)

I had already given up on trying to claim the switch incentive after being messed about and now I look on my credit report to see they've performed 3 Hard searches on the back of one application!! I've lodged a complaint, this is seriously the worst bank I've ever dealt with, the incentive and 6% regular saver is not worth it. I'm never having anything to do with HSBC again.

I have my card now, so think it took about 3 weeks from application online, no branch visit required.

Not a good start, phoned up (overseas call centre) to set up a telephone banking number, they said I answered one of the questions wrong, and my account is suspended, requiring a visit to branch.

Questions were, DOB, card number, card start and end, month of account open.

    Clearly she has misheard me.

Similar happened to me. In branch, they explained that during the time between your account being opened and setting up telephone security, you cannot speak to them on the phone (due to failing security checks), so it is a catch 22.

    Hung up my suit!
Switch date was 2nd Feb,incentive paid last week...I honestly think I was very lucky with the person I saw in branch, who in one appt set up the account, set up internet banking, ordered cards and set up the switch.Different story from when I applied last year ( different branch ) for the Advance and rejected.

Have sympathy for people being given the run around..

My other half welcome letter was dated 9th Feb. Switch was completed today 7th March. We sent an email through secure messaging asking to confirm the date the account was opened. They have replied back saying it was opened on 1st Feb.

Do you think my other half will still get an incentive?

I don't understand why you didn't ask them this when you asked when the account was opened?
