  • Reading through all this really makes me want to stay clear of switching to this bank for the incentive.. and also the fact that me fiance has had the exact same issues. Been on the phone multiple times and then went into branch twice only to be told that what was told to him on the phone was wrong..

I have read through HSBC eligiblity criteria etc and says you have to go into branch to verify ID etc and they would ask to see 3 months bank statements for donor account. It also says that all ID and statements etc CANNOT be printed from internet and needs to be original.. who gets paper statements anymore?! Every single bill I get is online so everything I have would be printed online which they don't seem to accept.. Can anyone tell me if this has been the case with them?
  • My switch date was 10th Feb. Still awaiting cashback

My switch date was 8 February, and also still awaiting the incentive payment. According to the T and C's, the payment will be made within 70 days of the date of the account opening, In my case, the account opening date was 21 January, so looks like I will have to wait until 31 March for payment. I am keen to switch again, but the T and C's make it clear that the account must be kept open until the incentive is paid, otherwise no incentive.
  • I got a letter thanking me for my interest and a booklet on the switch offer??????

I was asked to visit a branch to take in proof of earnings ie my P60 and/or last 3 payslips, when opening the Advance Account. I also took in bank statements, but not specifically the donor account, I think they were wanting to see I could make the £1750/ month payment. They were more than happy with my printed online statements, as all my accounts other than Yorkshire are set paperless. My opening/switch all went like clockwork after the branch appointment, however my wife's who only needed to take ID into branch has been told her switch has now failed as the date the branch set, 3 days longer than my own for the switch, was unachievable by the switching team. Fortunately she will still be within the 30 day period so Don't think we will have too much problem with the incentive.

I think we probably all got that - an out-of-context letter thanking us for our 'interest' and enclosing 'the information we requested' .

It's a lazy circular letter, as it could be about anything.

It would be so little effort to alter it to say this is being sent 'because you've applied for an account and probably want to go for the switching offer, so here's some useful information about that that you should read'.

But no, HSBC Customer Services can't be bothered to do that.

A harmless mailing, but one which could be so much better with just a weeny bit of thought on their part.

Still waiting for the debit card they promised was being sent 2 weeks ago...

And their reply to my letter, 1 week ago...

Well done. Was 4 January the date you applied, or the date of actual opening?
  • I called up HSBC on Tuesday to initiate my current account switch after receiving the switch letter. I asked the advisor when my account was officially opened and she said 4th Feb and that I wouldn't be able to switch in time to qualify for the incentive.

However, I told her that I only received the switch letter on Monday although the letter was dated on the 14th. She then said she can see there was a delay in sending out the documents and said she'll make sure my incentive will be credited into my account after the switch. I was told my switch completion date is 7th March and she had diarised my switch and will release the incentive once she's notified on her diary.

    So fingers crossed. :)

Sorry for the delay, Hattie, the 'H' folder in my filing cabinet is now quite bulky. lol.
Account was opened on 4th Jan, switched on the 5th Feb, incentive paid yesterday. So not so bad except for the over the top letters and forms and visiting the branch (2hr return trip on the bus) Best to get as much done in the branch as possible.
