Exactly the same experience as me. 13th Jan I received the acc no & Sort code plus the form to fill out for the telephone banking number which I put in the post the next working day.

Since then, nothing. I've called a couple times but with waiting times of over 20mins I have not got through to anyone.

I shall attempt to call them another time to just close the account. Frankly it is not good at all and has left a bad taste in my mouth so why bother with them.

We keep suggesting that people phone the switching team direct: several posts have the number. They are the ones to deal with this. It is still worth going through this for the £120, plus compensation, plus wine, chocolates, or flowers.

Yes, they are awful, but you've now had a credit check and done most of the work. Just phone the switching team and they will sort out everything.

bets thing about their awful service is that I wont feel bad in the slightest when I switch the account away the day I withdraw the incentive!
  • And miss out on 6% interest in the regular saver? Suit yourself! They have been totally crap, but once it's up and running I'll be happy to cycle the pay in monthly and watch my interest grow in the saver.

All very good points really. I will try again later when I can put my hands on the Debit Card of the account I am switching

    Why not?

Sure its a little more than Club Lloyds, quite a bit more than BoS and a lot more than TSB, but is it really any more difficult? Not worth it for 6%?
  • I coming coming to the end of my 1 year period with NW flexdirect so decided to use the account to get the HSBC switching bonus. I applied last week & on the on-line application, told them that I would not be paying my salary into the account.

I only really wanted the account to get access to the 6% regular saver (and the £120 switching bonus!!)

On finishing the application, I was informed that there was a problem & subsequently received a request to make an appointment at my local branch & to take proof of my last 3 month's salary.

I made the appointment & went in today only to be told that if I did not have may salary paid directly in, I could not open the account.

They have been told in no uncertain terms that I do not want this & that if this is the case, they should have made this clear at the time of applying rather than waste time for both of us.

Has anyone else had this stipulation?

Unfortunately, bank staff, not just those employed by HSBC, have a habit of making up their own terms and conditions:mad:

Nowhere in HSBC's T&C for this account, is there any mention of paying in a salary. In fact nowhere in any of the T&C of the multiple banks with which I hold current accounts, is there any such requirement.

If you can be bothered, I would ask the bank staff to point out this requirement to you. They will not be able to do so, because it does not exist.

Having said all that, I fear you will be hard pressed to get the account opened before 28 February, which is the end date of the current offer.

Do let us know how you get on.

I and probably others ticked the box to say would pay salary/pension etc into the account with no intention of doing so just in case that action might be account opening/switch 120.00 deal maker ;)

You don't have to open the account by 28 February. You must APPLY by 28 February, and your application must be subsequently accepted. The opening date could be into March, or later. The other time limit is that you must COMPLETE the switch within 30 days of the opening date. As a switch takes a minimum of 7 days, you should initiate the switch as soon as possible after opening.
