I applied for an account at 7 Mon night, I had a letter today with sort code and account number.
I had to sign a form and sent it back, will see what happens next.
I did not put in for a switch.0 -

Well, you have read the advice here not to wait but to go with ID and your account and sort code straight into branch. You have to make an appointment anyway. With this offer you cannot afford to wait as everything takes an age, or just doesn't happen. You have 30 days to complete - complete - your switch from the date the on the letter giving you the account number.
The branch can get your switch put under way (although check it is going through with the switch team) and they can give you the secure key and get you online.
I'd hate you to miss out on this nice little offer.0 -
I applied. The system could not find my address and so had to enter it manually. They also ask loads of questions re funding etc that no other bank asks!
I was turned down.
Not too surprised as have opened a few new bank accounts and credit cards recently.
Will try again in six months!0 -
I am already a HSBC Advance customer having got my free £120 save together ISA credit for the past year. The condition is to keep the account open. Once the Save Together has ended next month, I will switch away as noticed in the latest incentive T&C you are eligible if you haven't had an account with HSBC for six months. I'm hoping the incentive will be back later in the year with the same T&C and I will try to try for this then. HSBC are clunky online for initial applications. I found it a breeze to open the Advance account in branch at the HQ in the City of London!0

Account opened 27 January, account number and sort code advised in a second letter dated 4 February. Heard nothing since.
No debit card, chequebook, telephone pin or online access details received yet.
Rang the number on their letter to state I wished to take advantage of their switch offer. Apparently I need to speak to the other bank to initiate the switch to HSBC???
Nonsense of course. I'll try again tomorrow. If the switch has to complete by 27 Jan + 30 days = 26 February I guess it won't happen. Perhaps this is their plan.
Phone the switch team, 0345 5873 430, like I did and they will extend the 30 day period. The general enquiries people don't seem to know what they are talking about as they advised me also to contact the bank I was switching from to see what the hold-up was. The bank you are switching from should be doing all of this but you will find it is HSBC which is causing the delay.0 -
The delays with this are unbelievable. I've had conflicting letters, one of which referred to another letter I never received. I've had to go into branch 3 times, and it still isn't open yet. I called yesterday after my latest branch visit, and have been promised a call back. I'm not holding my breath, but on the bright side, the person in the switch team did say that they would definitely honour the switch payment regardless of some arbitrary 30 day rule.0

Wine.. flowers.. if HSBC were a date, they'd turn up late0

Still waiting for a debit card - 6 weeks after opening....
And have given up phoning - the people at the other end (when you finally get through) are either completely incompetent or highly trained comedians. Though I am not, yet, getting the joke.
Unless the joke is that the switch has to be done with 30 days....
Complete shambles of a bank.0 -

Yes, but you don't need the debit card to do the switch. So phone them and be very cross with them and they can get the switch done, give you compensation, and ensure you get the incentive (and I got wine too, and Danson above got flowers). You have only 30 days from account opening date (not the day you receive the letter in the incredibly slow post) to COMPLETE the switch, and you need 8 (7 for the actual switch) days for that.
But to everyone (and the offer anyway finishes at the end of the month) go into branch to do things. This has been said numerous times.
They know there are problems (it cannot just be us, we're experts!).
Switch team phone number is 03455873430, if anyone needs it.
I suspect this will come back in 6 months' time with improved systems when they've had a little think about how many customers they've put off.0
