    she didn't contribute anything
I'm glad that some of you find it funny to bully me, must make you feel so good

My son has his mother in law staying for Christmas, I was there for Christmas day and she talked all about herself and how much money she has
She gave the kids a tenner each and her daughter and my son a £15 marks and spensers voucher to share, Yet ate and drank five times that amount
how can anybody be so bloody selfish?

She ate and drank £175 worth of stuff? Wow! Impressive! For all you know her daughter and your son maybe told her not to bring anything as they were the hosts?

It isn't as if she came empty handed. She gave the kids and the daughter and SIL something. What would you have deemed to be an appropriate gift exactly?

Do you know her well? Maybe the talk about her having loads of money is exactly that, just talk.

    I don't see anyone bullying you. :(

And I am the first to complain when goading and bullying goes on on here!

Most people are being nice (like me,) or a bit puzzled, or trying to make light of it to cheer you up and help you deal with your anger.

I can understand the reaction to your claim she consumed £75 worth of stuff though.

I am struggling to see how any one woman could go through £75 worth of food and drink in one day. (Five times the amount of the £15 voucher she bought..?) Me and my hubby and daughter and her fella and FOUR people we have had around, haven't even got halfway through £100 worth of stuff we bought yet!

What has she consumed that cost £75?

    Serious question.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

She ate and drank over £175 worth of goodies - how?

I thought that, she couldn't have eaten & drank more than she gave in gifts.

The presents were very mean from a grandmother.
I'm not wealthy at all, but I gave my daughter & her family a little holiday (mini break at the Alton towers hotel) & probably about £150 worth of gifts to open on the day.

Plus I brought food (meat & cheese & stuff) & booze.

People disagreeing with you isn't bullying.

I'm not sure where selfish comes in? She was invited to stay, I certainly don't expect guests to pay for things when I've invited them, usually they return the favour. What's wrong with a tenner or a M&S voucher? Seem perfectly reasonable gifts - not everyone goes over the top at Christmas, nor should they feel they have to.

Can we just clarify if it was £75 worth of stuff or £175?

The OP said the woman ate five X the £15 voucher she got.

    That's £75 isn't it? :)

Easy, if smoked salmon, caviar and champagne from none budget supermarkets are on the menu.

I assumed the kids gifts were added in there too.

Competitiveness regarding presents is not good imv.

Anyway, our family do not do presents except for the babies.

And that is not over the top either. Just a few bells and whistles to make it fun.

Christmas is for comparing or complaining? !!!!!!. Is it not for enjoying people and families?

This is why I am, and always will be a bah humbug.
