Unbelievably selfish woman

I'm feeling so wound up
My son has his mother in law staying for Christmas, I was there for Christmas day and she talked all about herself and how much money she has
She gave the kids a tenner each and her daughter and my son a £15 marks and spencers voucher to share, Yet ate and drank five times that amount
how can anybody be so bloody selfish?

If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything. - Mark Twain
Nappies and government ministers need to be changed frequently and for the same reason

I'm not sure what you mean, was she contributing to the Christmas meal? In which case I totally agree, but maybe it was an oversight on her part and once home she'll remember?
I do think she could have at least taken a bottle or two to contribute also.
I never understand why people talk about their money, they're so much more interesting things to talk about.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
Maybe she has money because she tightly controls her expenditure.
Maybe she doesn't have as much money as she led you to believe.
Maybe you and her will never be destined to get along. If your son can tolerate her and just accepts her as she is, then why get worked up about it?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Lots of people are like that. Just rise above it and be yourself. Don't let her get to you, she'll get her comeuppance one day.
Maybe she doesn't have as much money as she makes out, i'd feel sorry for her if it were me.0 -
My brother and his wife came to my house on Xmas day for drinks - they drank pretty much everything I'd bought in especially for those who were staying for dinner and stayed so long I thought I'd have to plate up some dinner for them too
They spent ages telling everyone about the presents they'd given each other, brought presents round for my parents and gran but didn't even bring a card round for me
Surely it's basic common courtesy - if you're invited to someone's house at Christmas you take the bare minimum of a card?! I'd given them both a card and presents
FWIW - my ex SIL came too with the kids - she exists on benefits and every penny goes on bills, food and the kids - even she brought a card, some wine and chocolatesI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Health & Beauty, Greenfingered Moneysaving and How Much Have You Saved boards. Sorry to be so blunt, but I doubt you like the woman much.
If she had given the pressies in private, and if no one had said anything, what would the problem be?
There is more to this.
I HATE CHRISTMAS FOR ALL THIS MULLARKEY!.
So sorry for shouting. It is not all about who gave what to whom.
It is much more. And baggage maybe too.
Move on and enjoy your family. There is a whole year to go before the next drama.0 -
If there is one thing I LOATHE; it's people who BRAG about the cost and value of what they have.
Their £400K house. (Usually highly mortgaged!)
Their £30K car. (Usually on finance!)
Their £3K holiday. (Usually bought in a credit card!)
And they always do their food shop at M & S or Waitrose, and HAVE to tell everyone about it.
They will never buy or wear anything other than name brand clothes and shoes. And they always have to tell everyone about it.
I think people who are consumed with their wealth/money/bank balance have nothing else in their lives.
Your MIL sounds like one of these people. She is probably just sad and miserable and alone, and this is all she has.
Pity her, don't get mad, and move on.
Happy new year.
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!
You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more!

I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

"So here it is, Merry Christmas, everybody's havin fun".
If you feel so annoyed, she has certainly hit some buttons alright!
