Petra - there was some very odd responses on here. I'm not surprised either the poster didn't come back.

I got some very odd comments because I like to help my daughter (young family, childcare costs, mortgage) with some of the expense of hosting Christmas.
I like to help them in any small way I can & it's very appreciated by both of them.

I didn't see that Kim Kim. Why would people have an issue with you helping out your daughter at Christmas if she is struggling? She is your daughter !!!!!!!

From what you have said, it sounds like they may be jealous because they can't help their young adult children, or because they don't have the same relationship with them as you have with yours.

You sound like a great mum! :j

I bet Trazy IS regretting starting a thread on here, seeing as how her thread has gone the way that many threads go on here. With the OP being mocked and laughed at.

When someone posts a thread on here (not everyone; it depends if your face fits,) no matter what they post, someone will come along and have a go at them and criticize them and try and belittle them. Then before long, a few others will join in (usually the same half a dozen usernames EVERY TIME.) It's not ever 'bullying' though; people shouldn't post on here if they don't want an array of responses should they?! ! f23ptl_th.jpg

I don't blame Trazy for not returning, with the way people have behaved on this thread; laughing and berating.

As I said, it depends if your face fits; some posters never get attacked and mocked in this manner. But I have seen it happen to some people on here, including myself, and it's very unpleasant when you are the target. No wonder people make up a new username (and say 'new username to protect my identity,') when they want to start a thread on here.

It's like a snake pit in here sometimes! The worrying thing is that many people cannot see how bad their behaviour actually is!

I agree - BUT, some people come on here expecting EVERYONE to agree with them. They wont. its very rare to find all posters agreeing with the OP.
and I don't think that this thread has been particularly 'bullying'. people have disagreed with the op. and said why. she hasn't been 'attacked' personally in any way.

Tbh now Petra, you are very fond of shouting foul play

Im not posting to cause trouble ( although there's those who will say I am) Just noticing who it is and how often they shout out foul play

Thing is, if you dont want debate, or others disagreeing with you - dont post

I find the worse offenders are those that delete their posts/threads

I'll be honest I thought the families board was for help & advice, not debate surely?

The arms & discussion time are for debate?
  • My bff will tell me what I NEED to hear not what I want to hear & that's why I take on board what she has to say.....even if I'd rather she didn't.

The problem with this particular thread is that we have no context; is the family that hosted struggling , has the daughter put a 'gloss' on their situation whereas the son is more honest with his mum or does the op just simply feel that the mil should have gifted more given her apparent wealth? Who knows but without knowing the background this simply seems be to be an unwarranted rant

But not two people will have the same history/experience/advice so no matter what forum, it will always turn into a debate with people arguing their way is the only way

Surely its better to take these tales of woe to people who know you in real life, understand your family dynamics and can sooth ruffled feathers, if you dont want a broader picture?

    I'm feeling so wound up
My son has his mother in law staying for Christmas, I was there for Christmas day and she talked all about herself and how much money she has
She gave the kids a tenner each and her daughter and my son a £15 marks and spensers voucher to share, Yet ate and drank five times that amount
how can anybody be so bloody selfish?

I'm not sure what help and advice the OP wanted, can you tell us?
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

I don't know, maybe an anonymous rant :-)
Maybe people chipping in with their similar experiences.

When something happens to our kids (small or grown) we take it so much more to heart than if it was ourselves.
If I witnessed the same happen to my offspring I would be upset.
The op did make it plain it was the woman bragging about all she had then gifting her grandchildren & child £10/£7.50 was what annoyed her.

You cannot dictate to people what they can or can't post and where. The marriage and relationships board is always going to attract heated debate due to the very nature of the subject matter.

People will ask for advice - some will give advice, others will disagree. A debate is born. You can't stop that happening - not unless you want to completely strangle people and their views.

There's been no bullying on here though - that accusation is thrown around with alacrity unfortunately.
