Just need to find the best value way to get to the south rim of the canyon in a day now.
I haven't done the sums but I guess the choice between driving yourself and a bus tour might depend on factors such as the number of people in the party and how many days you'd rent a car for. With both choices it's about 275 miles each way on good fast roads with very little traffic. Map: https://goo.gl/maps/sGamQG7dcy82

You can get flights in small fixed wing aircraft. Not cheap.

You can't do it by helicopter (too far) but you can get helicopter trips at the South Rim itself if you want. Helicopter trips from Las Vegas go to the West Rim.

Are there any problems with buying the vouchers from the UK? I would use a Halifax Clarity Card would this work?

    Thanks
No problem that I can see. I used a Post Office credit card with no problems at all.

Thanks for the info, managed to get my Clarity Card to work plus I got my $10 discount off so $25 yesssss a result. Only thing is that as there are 3 of us travelling I will have to pay $28 to get a single ticket as the HappyHour discount is not available on Travelzoo for singles so I will have to go to the HighRoller Website direct, still factoring that in it still only comes to $53 for 3 of us.

Thanks for the link and the discount code. Finally a price the OH considers reasonable for the high roller.
    My thoughts exactly.
I signed up, and put all my details is as my UK address. It is not USA specific or anything like that?

Same here. Went through, no problems.
  • Thanks pebblesmax. Email was slow coming through, but I have it now.

Not used Travel Zoo before for LV, but will have a look over the weekend for anything else that might take our fancy.

We are now in the 90 day window for myvegas, so time to start stalking the rewards.

it was in LA last year with Alamo who said despite doing online check-in and getting the print out, was told still needed to go via the Kiosk machine so it take a swipe of my CC card...

Same applied in Vegas this year, but then again, I just assumed I had to goto the kiosk machine despite doing online checkin for Alamo....

Learn something new everyday ! :D
Although, I do remember my insider account saying skip the kiosk when doing online check-in, but it was only in LA they said I needed the print out from the kiosk machine.... will try skipping kiosk next year :)

Although, I think reason I had to goto kiosk maybe, is I never book direct with Alamo, I go via a broker :)

    FYI
    Update
Went to Alamo info desk at LAS car rentals and he said to go straight upstairs to pickup the car, no extra procedure needed.

Man in garage gave me three choices and I was out of the gate in 3 mins flat
    Result!

    Taxis:
    Download the Lyft APP
Enter promo that gets you 5$ off 10 rides in the Payment section "LV222"

    TIP
The only way I could add my UK credit card to the payment was to add it to my profile as adding it whilst requesting a ride did not work

Normal taxi LAS to Cosmo :-25$ all in
Lyft taxi Bellagio to car rental place $10 all in (includes $5 free).

There is a Lyft pickup at LAS-hard to find but its where the Valet cars are.

    As usual this is wrong.

I drove this route to Albuquerque NM and the road up to the Hoover dam is full of slow moving traffic. The speed limit is 55 mph or less. with plenty of police cars watching for speeding motorists.

Once in AZ (past the dam) the speed limit goes up to 75mph, however there were roadworks at various places and the trip to the turn off for the GC was over 4hrs at least.

Unless you are staying nearby for the night do not do this in one day!

Don't forget Uber too. If you're a new account you'll get $10 or $20 off your first journey (I can't remember which) I signed up after getting fed up waiting for a shuttle bus after we didn't make it on the first one and it was another half hour before the next was due. Free ride on Uber back to the hotel was nice.

There's loads of people on the strip handing out Lyft sign up codes, I guess you don't need them but if you forget to do it here, they come as a reminder to you!
