You fly the same day as us Raymondo. We fly from Glasgow down to Heathrow, then out of there at 440pm with BA.

Drinks and snacks, you could find your nearest ABC store. Or Walgreens or CVS. There is a Walmart on Tropicana so you could take the bus out east to that if you could be bothered. Other than that there might be a petrol station out the back, Rebel at the intersection of Koval and Tropicana. I'm sure you could go out the monorail exit to get to that maybe?
All this information is good to know and I will be writing it all down so I can work out where things are.
We are flying with Virgin from Gatwick at 10.30am so should be there early afternoon, looking at the map it looks like the Airport is not far from the strip so what is the best way of getting from the Airport, shuttle or taxi there are 3 of us?

. Been to New York a few times and like the American Diner experience so any recommendations for somewhere near our Hotel for breakfast dinner etc,

    Thanks
not exactly near your hotel but Johnny Rockets and Peppermill are both cheesy diner type places. They're up at Fashion Show Mall and just north of Wynn respectively (I think they're a Johnnys somewhere else too but you'll have to google that) :)

We are doing the "Dublin" thing for the first time on the 4th September.
So off to Dublin from Manchester on the Saturday....then Dublin to Heathrow, and then the 4.40 to Vegas.

The other Johhny Rockets is at the back of Ballys rear entrance.

We used to go to Roxys Diner down at the Strat years ago...loved the "Happy Days" feel to the place..classic American diner.
Food was cheap, and the wait staff took it in turns to sing live to the customers..some were very good.

The waiters still did the singing last year. It's popular, so I hope they still do it.

Just take a taxi, ask the driver to take you 'via Swenson'. Should be about $15.

We will arrive about 7pm or 8pm, will probably be dark when we land. We haven't arrived in the afternoon for about 10 years or so, but we fly via Heathrow in November on an earlier flight and will get there at 3pm I think. It can be a long way till bedtime with the time difference. I remember when we arrived at 2pm before on a direct flight from Manchester and we felt like we were wandering like zombies till about 9pm when we couldn't last any longer. Then woke up at 2am or something like that!! I hope I'll get a nap on the plan so that I can stay up a bit later, but I'm terrible for not sleeping the first few nights when we arrive.
  • Thanks to everyone for the great info, just keeping an eye on the dollar at the mo and it seems to be creeping up so just got to hope it creeps a bit further. Luckily I still have some dollars from our trip to NYC last year plus I have a Halifax Clarity card so will use that if necessary.

    Keep all the tips coming!!

    Thanks

We flew with Thomas Cook to Vegas in May this year, and arrived shortly after noon,Vegas time.
It's the earliest we have ever arrived there, and to be honest,we felt fine with no layover involved.
We dropped our bags at the hotel, got changed, and then off out for the day.
It really felt like we had "gained" the best part of a day's extra holiday.

As Lesley says...most of our trips mean we arrive in the evening,so it's usually something to eat in the hotel, and off to bed exhausted....generally followed by a few hours sleep, waking up about 4.30am and being "up" for the day ahead.:rotfl:

We will be arriving at a similar time. Any tips for getting over the jet lag? What time did you manage to stay out until?

Don't really suffer from jet lag on the way out...but coming home is terrible for me.
I think if you try and get a couple of hours rest on the plane, then the excitement of being in Vegas gets you through the day.
As its not much after noon when arriving, and the sun is shining,we just had a wash, got changed and went out like the day was just starting.

We were fine until about 9ish o clock in the evening. When the tiredness came over us we just headed back to the hotel, and straight to bed.

Our first ever visit to Vegas was a direct flight with virgin,we arrived at the hotel about 2 o clock....we thought well just have an hours kip before seeing the sites of Vegas...we both woke up,and it was nearly 10pm at night. So even if you don't manage a "normal" afternoon/evening out and about round Vegas,I would suggest staying awake as long as you can.
The sooner you get used to Vegas time the better.
