sometimes I think that SS get a commission for each child they get put up for adoption

They don't, and it's not going to be helpful to think of them as the enemy. They, like you, are looking out for the welfare of the baby.

OP the consensus on this and your other thread is to seek advocacy and a solicitor and you only have one week before conference and nine weeks before your due date. You should have received a letter advising of your right to instruct a solicitor.

At conference SS would expect you to demonstrate the changes you have made and consider all of the support that you now have in place and then may see that you don't need to give up work. However you will need to ensure you have the correct benefits in place particularly if you need to pay for childcare.

Only you know the full history and you have not spoken to Social services yourself and they need you to engage. SS have to see that you have insight into any issues or problems. It can be incredibly intimidating for a family to sit in a room full of professionals making judgements on you and decisions which seem out of your control.

Advocates can support you in these meetings and solicitors can prepare your case and/or challenge decisions. This can make a real difference to the outcome. A looked after child can be supported in the home eg. community fostering or supervision order. The protection of the child is the priority and social services are often damned when they do and damned when they don't.

A nanny? Does this really sound like a family who can afford a nanny.

Their post gives no information about their financial situation. And a nanny / au pair does not have to be that expensive, especially if part time or shared with another family.
  • Financial situation is ok while working but still not sure if I could afford a nanny

Judging by the OPs occupation neither a nanny or an au pair are affordable.

They are saying that they want our daughter to stay with us, but the option they are giving is that I give up my job, which I have worked hard to keep

    • You have lost one child to SS/adoption already
    • You are due another in 8 weeks
    • SS are involved, and have told you that you must leave your job to care for the child/partner
    • You have not actively contacted your case worker to discuss this (in fact have you even met him/her?)

You need to make some decisions. I am being quite blunt, as you have already stated that you do not have any LD yourself, but what are you actually doing!?
  • I have met the social worker, I have contacted her today to find out what is going on but got no reply, I am going to see about a solicitor today
