I can't believe that people are believing this? :rotfl:

Take a stranger into your home, a kick boxer at that :rotfl:

Get a taxi home from work I think you will find its an allowable expense for the pub to pay for it.

Sorry dear, you have obviously never worked in managing or owning a pub, if I get a moment over the weekend I'll look out my last set of accounts from when I did and let you see the total for the year of my contract with the local taxi firm :D

BTW a taxi was provided for all staff with no evening transport from the pot washer to the manager and was not dependant on their wage level.

Not the way I'm reading it.
It's just disagreeing with the post from moneyistooshorttomention who said it wasn't likely that a pub would pay for a taxi home for their staff.
I have highlighted the further addition to the aspersion. Although it was a reply to Doris it is also backing up what was said in the 1st post to make it look like that is the norm for all pubs.

I have said this numerous times. Everyone should be given the opportunity until proved otherwise! There is nothing to suggest this thread is a wind up and it sounds plausible to me. I do sometimes question what has happened to the values of humanity when i read this board :(

So it sounds like a taxi is a viable option - either paid out of the rent the OP could get if she had a paying lodger instead of the kick-boxer or through ab arrangement with the pub owner.

However, if I had a grasping, blackmailing daughter like she seems to have, I'd stick with the kick-boxer on principle.

    No it's not.
It's just explaining how it was done when cbrown372 ran a pub.

    ????? Since when??????

Pubs tend to have NMW jobs and I would be VERY surprised indeed if any of them were prepared to pay a taxi fare for staff, as well as their wages. I've certainly never heard of it.

Of course, if you can produce:

    a. Evidence that HMRC will allow this without deducting tax from it (ie the number of relevant paragraph, relevant page its on from HMRC manuals, etc)

    AND

    b. Evidence that its commonplace for pubs to cover the taxi fares of their staff after their turn of duty (ie as well as pay them wages)

By looks of it you have both missed the part where she says she has a driving phobia. That renders all this talk of getting a taxi useless. We dont know the extent of her phobia but by her not getting a taxi probably means it is quite a severe phobia.

Sometimes Polly i think you are alright but other times you are as stubborn as a mule. You do remind me of 1 of my aunts! Once her mind is made up there is no going back and you are the same. We could go on like this all day but why bother? You are never going to agree with me and i'm not going to keep on with this stalemate :rotfl:
It's a driving phobia, not a phobia of cars.
Until the OP comes back to explain the extent of the phobia, I'm not going to make the giant leap that you have and assume it means she can't get into a car.

She may not have considered a taxi as a solution.

As for your comments about me, I'm just disagreeing with your interpretation of somebody's post on an internet forum.
I wouldn't take it so personally if I were you.;)

Not all pubs provide taxis for their staff at night-arguably they all should- but they don't.

I think there is more to all this than OP is telling. The issue around wanting the company of someone for security has little bearing over the issue with the DD.

I am wondering whether the daughter is just frustrated with her mum that she is letting someone take advantage of her. Getting rent free just for walking someone 5 evenings a week (I assume it is not every day) seems abnormally generous. Maybe it isn't about stopping OP seeing her grand daughter but about keeping her distance for a while as to prevent her letting her frustrations on her mum.

Who knows! Sounds to me like you need to have a proper talk with your daughter.

    ......

Taxi's were always put on when I worked in a pub, twas difficult to get home at 4am otherwise, and yes we would regularly serve til that time on friday and saturday nights and the local BiB knew about our lock ins and would often call in for a quick pint.

Similar in the restaurant trade as well, taxis home if you weren't hitting the clubs.

So - that seems to boil down to what the hours are that OP works and looks like it would apply for the first 60 journeys (ie so how often OP works as well).
