My last standing order has just gone out for December, I am declaring £1900 for December, which brings my total saved this year to £16550.

This included my last payment for a matured Nationwide Regular saver. SO...

Total saved has smashed target, I have spent 5k already paying of a expiring money transfer on a few credit cards that I used last Christmas, borrowed at 0% and 1.2% fee and I have managed to put it into 5% regular saver, made some interest on the money, (eventually as I was one of those who didnt get interest on account at maturity)

I am quite happy with my total, Im not sure if I will manage 12k next year as I have four maturing balance transfers next year but lets see, I find as I pay back one offer, a few months later I get another offer to use, so I maybe able to 'snooze' for a little longer, not that there is many places to put it as of next year, with the rewards and interest payments dropping.

Still trying to work out if I should keep or close my Leeds Regular Saver when the rate drops...

    Ill give to thought...

Thanks SF for running this thread, I appreciate the support and guidance from this thread and look forward to next years challenge.

Happy christmas to all, I'm sure I will be online, but just in case, have a fantastic day, whatever you have planned, with those family members we love, or that special person/furry friend in your life, and not forgetting spending the day with your friends, if thats what you do....

Festive wishes and hugs from me

My total is £799.04 this month. Sadly I had to move £600 back to cover paying for a holiday at Easter. £1,399.04 was much more impressive but as it was in-month I don't feel I can count it.

See you over in 2017 thread  although I might pop back a few times to check out our results

My very last update of this year and a very good one at that. Total saved this month is £1612.33 bringing my total for this year £14630.32. Totally smashed my original 8k target and then my updated 12k target. Very happy with how much I've saved. If someone told me in January 2015 that I would clear my debt and have saved over 20k in just under 2 years I would never have believed it,

Thank you so much for this thread slowlyfading and to everyone for sharing their progress, good and bad, it keeps me motivated.

    Bring on 2017!

I can't believe it, big thanks to everyone for the encouragement from this thread!

I have signed up for 2017 for £6k but I think I may increase my target to £7.5k so I'll have a total of £15k in 2 years :D

Wishing everyone a lovely Christmas and new year, see you in the 2017 thread!

I can't believe it's that time already! My December savings total is £683.91 which makes my total year's savings £8,476.09. Nowhere near my £10k target but smashed my 2015 savings (not signed up to this challenge) of approximately £3,000.

Now, to share some bad news. My company is about to be wound up and I have no redundancy rights. I am saying this here for a couple of reasons:
    - The worst can and sometimes does happen. That emergency fund really is important. I only found out about a month ago that I would be out of a job any day now - absolutely no idea before that.
    - My 2017 savings might not be so great. I do have another job lined up, although it's not finalised yet because the winding up process is getting in the way, but I'm going to do my best.

Worst possible time of year for this to be happening but hey ho, at least I have a buffer of over £11,000 if it came to it! (It would have been more but I've rather been drowning my sorrows, which isn't a cheap vice).

Anyway, merry choose-your-holiday everybody. I'll keep checking this board to see how the rest of you are doing (it looks pretty good so far!) but otherwise see you on the 2017 board.

Thanks SF for all your hard work :)

Very sorry to hear your news. Yes, it is a bad time of year for fragile things. I do hope you are OK. We have just had a massive health scare with my Mum, and it makes you really reflect on the important things.

You are right about the emergency funds. My DH wrote off our car at the end of September (he was unharmed, fortunately) and our emergency fund has dealt with topping up for a replacement car, replacing the dishwasher, loaning DS for his car insurance and paying the deposit for replacement windows - all since summer holidays. It is running at a bit less than six months atm so my first priority is to top it back up again.

When I lost something and was drinking to drown my sorrows, it became quite a habit, so I changed my style. I now buy a more expensive drink and drink 20% of the quantity I used to - drinking more did not agree with me - my wallet, waistline, mood and health were all impacted... just a thought

    See you over on 2017
