Your all doing so well I haven't updated the past few months as hardly had a minute to spare and. Some very expensive bills came sort of unexpectedly . Managed to save £1000 for May and now am back on track . I have 2 more payments on the bank loan and that should free up some cash each month and hooefully a family member is paying me back this month fingers crossed. I need to start tracking my spending now as a feel this is my down fall and I don't track things enough !
That sounds like a plan, soon you will want to save your pennies rather then spend them, when you work out hows its dripping through your fingers,...
My eye opener was the local harbour restaurant, food there is £7- £9 which is fine once or twice but when I checked my statements I was eating there three/four times a week and that was nearly £200 a month.
Now I pot the money I was spending on someone else to cook some food, I still eat there once a week on a Sunday, I cant compete for the price of their roasts :-)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Banking & Borrowing, and Reduce Debt & Boost Income boards. Urrrghhh poor month at savings again
. Getting house done up for a valuation so new paint/flowers/rockery stones/artwork etc have come to over £300 + new sofa's - which luckily we got from a charity shop. My husband earns well above the national average wage and this is the second month we haven't saved (husband getting a £100 speeding fine hasn't helped!).
Think ill have to start a journal for July just to check where/when our money goes and on what. Anyone have any simple speadsheets i can use?
Congrats to everyone who is managing to keep saving

Very true, the same where I work, I have three coffee machines at home, and I take a coffee into work with me, and we do have a machine at work so dont have to pay for coffee there, but I find that lots of staff buy convenience food, If i had a lunch break I would bring in a box of cold pasta, or a tin of soup or even one of those frozen jackets.
It also surprises me that most staff come in with toast in the morning from a local sandwich shop, he must be rubbing his hands with glee each morning when they all pile in....
Soon they may have their moment, and realise that money is slipping away like sand...

Hi kitjos, I think you are right, it's pretty much essential for us to track our spends - otherwise, you'll never see how all of those little purchases add up to some big numbers over time. I use Google Sheets for mine - there is an example you can copy here...

Number 36 declaring £1,200 for June.
Not sure what's going to happen in July, insurance for both cars needs sorting before the 4th (current best price I can find is £900 for 2 cars)
Plus we are going on holiday on the 8th, holiday is paid for but need spending money
Plus credit card bill is currently £870 :-/0 -

I'm really pleased! I was beginning to think I might not make my target this year again (always set it high so not really bothered) but a substantial loan I made over five years ago has just been repaid to me. As it was never counted before it was loaned out, I can obviously count it now! Actual figures to come the day after pay day.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

Putting £1000 into 2x regular savers but as I am going to be taking money out to pay for my holiday I am not going to count it.
So still on £4872. But happy because I am going to be going on a holiday of a lifetime.
Slowly fading - do I need to put a form in to declare £0?2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons
