  • That was my point: If Avro escapees are subject to the same restrictions as "new" customers?

No, they are being put onto a variable tariff which is not being offered to new customers at the moment, so they have an advantage in that respect..

Does that mean the tariff info from Octopus' website doesn't apply to former Avro customers?
    Edit
Ok. Just read MSE news item on the subject. We'll get £10 less than the October cap for typical medium consumption.

. . . All they need to do is post the tariff rates on their Avro page, after all.  It would take them five minutes, if that.
As explained a few pages earlier, you can get the tariff info from <Octopus>. Enter your postcode then just wait a few seconds for the tariff list to load. At the top, click on the 'Filters' drop-down list. Select 'flexible' from the options. In my case the flexible October 2021 v1 is third on the list.
Let us know how you get on.

Yes, Consumerist, I tried that "several pages ago" but how can you possibly know that what appears to be their cheapest tariff will be the one we are offered until they tell us so?  Oh, that's right, you can't.

You still haven't got it.  If you'd got the September tariff, do you really think that you'd be paying at that tariff's currently advertised rates for long?

Sorry, I hadn't realised you had already got the Flexible October v1 tariff details from Octopus.
    Edit
Today's <MSE news item> suggests that whatever the detailed rates are, we'll be put on a special tariff which we probably won't be able to beat for a while.

  • I could imagine there being protests if there were significant differences between what Avros are offered and what is offered to new (and existing) Octopus customers, if it seems that the latter only are being given a capped variable rate - if I have understood correctly.

You won't see complaints from existing customers as they are either on a cheaper fix already or as their fixes end they will be able to go on to the same variable tariff as the Avro transfers, if that makes more sense for them than other options like Go/Go Faster/Intelligent.
What Octopus are not doing is offering their variable capped tariff to new customers (those not part of the SoLR process) at the point when they get a quote. They just offer two 2 year fixed options.

  • I know this sounds like a stupid question...

Is it a fair understanding that with it being a 'flexible tariff' with Octopus, that from September 26th we'll get charged the Flexible Octopus September 2021 v1 tariff, and from October 1st, we'll get charged the Flexible Octopus October 2021 v2 tariff.  Would anyone get the Flexible Octopus October 2021 v1 tariff, even if you signed up a few weeks ago?
