Been with Avro for 12 months, no problems at all until I have tried to switch away.

They objected to the switch as they say I am in debit.  Whilst that is true today, I will be in credit when my direct debit goes out in 2 days.

If I then re-initiate the swap, what's the chances I am in debt again by the time the new swap attempt is made? . . .
If you are not in debt at the time of the switch request then they should not object to the switch. Unfortunately, your latest statement probably needs to be in credit so you may need to wait until it is produced.
They shouldn't really be doing this sort of thing so why not put in a formal complaint as a parting gift to them.

I have a feeling a complaint would be a waste of time. They will simply quote numbers on Particular dates which I won't be in a position to dispute.

One other thing about this is that I get dual fuel from Avro, but to save £250pa I have swapped to separate gas/electricity suppliers (couldn't get near with another dual fuel).  So far it is only the new electricity supplier who has mentioned an objection.  So it sounds like Avro are treating my gas and electricity balance as separate entities.  I presume my gas is in credit, lol.

Don't bother with the formal complaint they just ignore the complaint anyway and your emails :):)

Sadly, that's why they continue to get away with it. Avro can ignore a complaint all it likes but in the end the ombudsman can award compensation. Just having a debit balance on an account paid by direct debit does not constitute debt according to Ofgem's Standard Licence Conditions.

This is what forums such as these are all about. What doesn't get highlighted elsewhere

I'd be interested to know who you went to for the split fuel savings. Nowhere I could see that would save me anything like £250.

    Sorry, it was £150.

My current bill with them will be around £1700 p.a., they (Avro) have offered me new tariffs which will cost me £1960 p.a.

I will now probably get slated for my new suppliers, but when I buy gas from Utility Point and Electric from Symbio, then it works out at £1800.

More expensive than old tariff, but £160 p.a. saving on Avros offer.  Avros gas was actually the cheapest I could find, but their electricity was way too high.

I was actually going to stay with Avro, but the renewal offer I was going to accept changed to the one above in the space of 48hrs of me first seeing it, and deciding to accept it.

Yes, from what I have read Symbio is a bit of a handle-with-care case and I would be reluctant to switch to them myself without more positive endorsement. Likewise with Avro's tariffs, now you sees them, now you don't.

I don't know if the Avro system allows you to do this but with my present  supplier I can top up the account manually via the website, and I regularly make use of this to zero the account once a month. You could do this with Avro and then cancel the D/D - at least in theory?

I think you may need to be careful when cancelling DDs. Avro could put you on to a more expensive tariff which does not require payments by DD (this is in their Ts&Cs).
If your DD is under-paying for your energy use then manual top-ups seem like a good idea to keep credit balances low.

i cancelled my D/D when things with Tonik got out of hand and lived to tell the tale. My reasoning would be that if at the time the account was zeroed manually then they could put you on whatever tariff they liked, if you had given notice then they could whistle in the wind.
