  • Progress of a sort.  No reply to the fomal complaint I raised with them last week but there has been some movement.  Finally this morning my Electricity Meter Serial Number (correct) showed up on my account.  I was able to input all the reads for 3rd Feb (opening), 3rd March and 3rd April agin but this time they appeared in my account.    Not sure if the opening read I have submitted to them on several occasions has been industry verified.  It now remains to be seen as to how efficient they are at generating bill statements given that they have everything they need to produce them.

Well you could knock me down with a feather.  More progress and fast.  Statement has now been produced taking me up to 3rd April (2 months into my supply) using all reads supllled with a curious change to my submitted opening read - it was increased by 6 units.  Avro came back again this morning and stated that 'the reading was agreed via the industry database and we would not be able to dispute this as it is within tolerance'.  It matters not although why the NHHDC changed it by only 6 units is beyond my limited powers of comprehension.

I wonder if Avro just lifted all the data Meter Technical Details and opening read (which I assume is now a deemed opening read only 6 units different to my actual read) from the leccy industry database ECOES (Electricity Centralised Online Equiry Service)?  Curious that all of this has happened after a late email last night when I queried why they (AVRO) had not sought to use ECOES to lift the required information!  Maybe Avro's Meter Operator Agent neglected to keep Avro in the loop and just updated ECOES directly.  Whatever the situation I guess I will never really know what happened and why it took so long to resolve.  Now to get my YE-credit money back from Scottish....

. . . I have to now go and read them manually for her as she can't read them because they're a. placed too high up for her . . .
If your mother is elderly, signing up to Avro's Priority Services Register may help her to have the meters moved to a more convenient location, if that is possible.

That's very kind and helpful of you to mention that. She is already signed up with the priority register. I will investigate that. Thank you.

Not forgetting Twitter of course as a parallel avenue for getting results
If I recall right you said that your renewal deadline was 4th April.
If you don`t mind telling us, who and which tariff did you finally plump for?

Now a fully paid up member of Octopus Tracker.. The relative advantage compared with other tariffs has been reduced over the past few days but by my calculations not to the extent that one of the acceptable alternatives is demonstrably better - so far.

I don`t see the tracker mentioned on any of the switch sites,
Even Octopus`s own site when asked for a quote doesn`t come up with it amongst the three tariffs it does offer,
They`re hardly making this tariff obvious, it makes me wonder if they really want people to go on it.
The other thing, of course is, I don`t suppose you can compare it to other tariffs because the rate changes daily.
In fact, you won`t know how much you`re paying yourself until the year is up.
I have watched the demo and what they try to predict prices will be, but it`s really only speculation on their part.

I did have an email response from Avro yesterday afternoon which was sent on 24th March but because of the delay what I enquired about is now well over the hill and gone.
They really do need to provide a better customer service through their site webchat or over the phone and stop hiding behind the pandemic.

It isn’t mentioned on any PCWs because the annual cost is based on daily changing wholesale prices. The daily standing charge is fixed but not the unit price. Consumers on Tracker or any of Octopus’ time-of-use tariffs have to be fully committed to price monitoring.

@[Deleted User], Thanks for that but all too much hassle for me.

I`ve contacted Avro today and will be staying with them for another 12 months on a fixed deal.

From what's been posted, it seems to me that the Tracker tariff is going to be a full-time job to monitor. Most of us prefer to choose a tariff once a year and then forget it, knowing what it's estimated to cost us.

There is of course no obligation to monitor the Tracker  prices on an ongoing basis but it is likely that people who opt for this (or even more so for one of the other "innovative" tariffs) will be motivated to do so with the aim of beating the fixed rate tariffs such as Avro. There is a separate thread for Octopus discussions to avoid being accused of topic hopping on this forum

Your comments on this thread have been useful and helpful.
I`ll have a look at the Octpus thread but as I said above I`ve just renewed with Avro again for another year.
I like to know how much I`m paying in advance.
With Tracker you`ll only know when the year`s up.
But it will be interesting what the result turns out to be.

    Adios
