Telegraph_Sam said:Similar results to report from approaching Avro direct as a non-customer: In my case £13 annual saving compared with SuperSwitcher. This puts them up with the leaders for fixed rate tariffs not requiring a smart meter and no exit feesAn interesting observation. I was beginning to wonder if it might be a kind of loyalty tariff for existing customers.As if.

It is commonly held in the insurance world that these days being loyal gets penalizedTelegraph Sam

I suspect that there is more laziness in finance than loyalty. On the bright side, that leaves some pickings to be had by the not-so-lazy.Telegraph_Sam said:It is commonly held in the insurance world that these days being loyal gets penalized

Hmm .. I just looked and they offered me "Simple and SuperSaving" as well.
They say it's cheaper for me but the prices all go up!
Standing Charge = 19.95p/day (Simple and SuperPremium =16.80p/day)
Electricity = 16.485p/kWh (Simple and SuperPremium =16.17p/kWh)
Gas = 2.678p/kWh (Simple and SuperPremium = 2.567p/kWh)
Although they would put my DD down by £6 month.0 -

Although they would put my DD down by £6 month.Yes, you need to be careful (suspicious). I noticed that they had conjured up consumption figures which are quite a bit short on reality.At the new rates the SuperSaving is quite competitive. The DD has been set too low for me in my view but then I have a significant credit balance carried forward. If I come up short towards the end of the contract then I'll use one-off card payments to make up the shortfall.I suspect Avro is heading off claims for credit-balance refunds and forcing customers to accept lower DDs instead.

I'd always try to steer my credit / debit balance to as near zero as practical, not least in order to save the hassle when switching.

I won't mention it on this forum but I am actively considering switching to Octopus Tracker accepting that this is a variable rather than a fixed tariff so not directly comparable. That said, for those prepared to do a little research the savings do seem to be well worth it, while for those in Consumerist's second category the Avro fixed tariff looks like one of the best bets.

Although Avro is a fixed tariff you have the option to switch to another Avro tariff without penalty at any time and also to another supplier.
Best of both worlds.1 -
Those are the plusses that they share with Octopus. I'm trying to find a tariff that can compete with the Tracker given the flexibility if prices skyrocket in future.Telegraph Sam

I couldn't have put it better myself.2010 said:Although Avro is a fixed tariff you have the option to switch to another Avro tariff without penalty at any time and also to another supplier.
