. . . Does anyone have any experience of DD being taken after Final statement generated?
In my experience, the real final statement is issued 6 weeks after a switch. Anything received before then is an interim statement subject to amendment.

Interesting. My online account clearly show 'Final Statement' and the PDF download is headed 'Your final Gas and Electricity Bill'. Email from the COT team says 'We have now been able to close down your account, and generate your Final Statement'.

I wasn't surprised that they took the DD on 20th as it had was probably already been generated when they calculated the 'Final Statement'. I'll give it a few more days to update.

How many definitions of 'Final' are there, I wonder
My Final Statement was generated 18th Jan.
Additional DD taken 20th Jan and by 25th, the Statement had been updated to reflect this so over £110 in credit.
    Still waiting for my refund.
    Update:
Correct refund credited 10th Feb and Avro have obviously cancelled my DD.
    All in all, no complaints.

    Now for my next issue...
We spent 4 weeks in temp accommodation between house sale & purchase when not responsible for utility bills. Moved here 6th Feb and trying to set everything up. Proving difficult as all utilities seem geared to switching. Can't sort broadband because previous owner still registered, but hopefully that's in progress from his end.

As long as I know who previous fuel supplier was, can I just guess at a tariff in order to get quote from Avro? I'm tempted to go with them as I'm familiar with their set up & they have no exit fees. I think they only offer Simple & Super Switcher, which, using ests from previous home comes out at £110pm rather than £85 I was paying. Seems steep, but I've so much to sort at the moment, I just want to tick this off.

    Grateful for any advice

Yes. The comparison sites only need your previous tariff in order to exaggerate the savings you would rarely make.

Make sure you register PDQ with the existing supplier(s) and send the meter readings(s) on the date you took possession, otherwise you'll be on an expensive Deemed Contract and possibly paying for the previous occupants' usage.
Also make sure you are on the Electoral Roll.

    @2010 Consumerist & Gerry1
    Thank you!
Previous owner has now told me he was with Green Energy, being taken over by EDF & he’s been told ‘they will sort it out’.
I’ll give the Ofgem website a try later.
I took photos of readings when we collected keys on completion & have confirmed them with vendor.

@badger09 You need to register and send the reading to EDF, not the vendor.  The golden rule is NEVER to rely on others to 'sort things out', YOU need to take control, understand all aspects and do it yourself otherwise it can all end in tears.  Agents can have cosy deals with expensive suppliers to monetise you, and agents, landlords and previous occupants can submit closing readings that are way too low, leaving you to pay for their usage.

Thanks. Yes, I realise I need to send readings myself. What I meant was, both vendor & I have same readings for completion day.
I’ve registered today with Avro for a ‘switch’. If there is any problem with final readings/bills, I have my photos & email from vendor with his readings which are the same (within a gnat’s tadger).

Also managed to sign up for phone & BB today as his service has now switched.

Yet another new tariff from Avro, Simple and SuperSaving.
    This seems to have replaced
Simple and SuperSwitcher and is slightly cheaper.
Can`t see it on any comparison sites yet, not even CAB.

Same here. I got my 42-day wonder letter offering the SuperSaving for renewal but didn't see it on Citizens Advice.

  • Similar results to report from approaching Avro direct as a non-customer: In my case £13 annual saving compared with SuperSwitcher. This puts them up with the leaders for fixed rate tariffs not requiring a smart meter and no exit fees
