I read somewhere (this thread?) that Avro can't yet remotely read smart meters - even ones being fitted for them.
Not quite. A copy of a reply from Avro reported that they (Avro) cannot yet automatically acquire smart-meter readings so that customers with smart meters may still have estimated readings used for their statements. It would seem that customers with smart meters can ask Avro to revert back to manual reads until their process is automated.

Hmmm. I'm not wishing to start an argument but what is the diffference between what I said: "...... Avro can't yet remotely read smart meters and what you said: "........(Avro) cannot yet automatically acquire smart-meter readings". Am I missing something?

As I understand what was reported of Avro's reply to an email enquiry, Avro can acquire smart meter readings but it is not yet an automated process.

Anyone else, like me, running a slight debit balance here?? Everyone seems to be running in credit, some to fairly decent amounts.
I use the last year's figures plus 15% when getting energy quotes. Then if a credit builds up, say £150 to £200 then I can ask for a refund if I wish, I didn't with my last supplier and ended up £850 in credit when I left. 15% is only a few pounds more a month on the DD, I did actual usage and the monthly price was £46 but with the addition of 15%, it was £48.
Oh, don't get me wrong I'm ok with it. In fact, I'd far rather  have a slight debit, and it's not huge, as opposed to a major credit running with them or any other supplier. As someone said above when and if a better deal comes along I'll move account into slight credit before I leave. Too much to do with my cash than letting it sit in their coffers!!

Ps- they'll start clawing it back bit by bit now anyway with increased d/d on new tariff which is absolutely fair enough.
The credit would only be around the £70 mark for the 15% added for the extra gas and electricity. The extra would be used on the gas in cold weather.  My usage on electricity is around 174 kWh per month but gas is only 11 kWh in summer and around 350 in winter months.
Someone please tell me what money is
  • Not sure if anyone can answer this - I'm looking to switch to Avro and have got to the bank details bit and "Confirm Switch" button.   There's been nowhere to specify the start date! Does it start immediately or does it start right after my current provider's contract ends? (end of March).
  • When you apply for a switch there's normally a 14 day cooling period before the switch is completed.

You should expect to receive an update from Avro in the next couple of days with the date they are planning to take over your supply.

Cheers - thanks. I don't recall not specifying a start date before.

I shall assume that you are in the 49 day exit fee-free window and that you don't owe money to your curent supplier.  With my Avro switch, they emailed me (within 24 hours) advising me of the switch date (21 days after this initial application).  The switch did indeed take place 21 days later from when I started the application.

Many thanks - yes I'm in the 49 day window. I have to admit I don't like leaving it too late so this is a bit off-putting (and other company quotes may increase as I get closer to the end date) so I might go with another provider.
