  • Interesting since I had not ruled out switching to Avro myself in the coming weeks. It would be interesting to know what  conclusions / alternatives you come to. I had "shortlisted" So Energy and Outfox the Market.
I am in a very similar position to rmtucker re getting little movement on opening electricity read validation.  I shall be trying to contact them later this week via the methods at my disposal if the read situation has not resolved itself by then.  This may be the fault of Avro or,  just as likely, their choice of Data Collector in the validation process.  I'll reserve judgement on Avro until then.

I have had no response now from Avro for over 5 days.(except for an automated email in response).
I have sent multiple emails and the last response was the 18th.
I think after 3 weeks of this shambles i shall look elsewhere albeit at a higher price but maybe better customer service.

In my experience, Avro do respond to emails in the time stated in the automated response. How many working days did that response say?
I sent them an email on Jan 15 and got a reply on Jan 26, 7 working days later.

AFAIK when you change suppliers your final readings go to an independent adjudicator who access the final readings.
They have a full history of your past usage and they determine whether your final readings are acceptable.
If I remember correctly my gas account was opened by Avro a couple of weeks before my electricity account.

As regards contacting Avro, the webchat was running about 30 mins ago when I tried it.

16-35 webchat working, have just checked it.
  • I have found Avro to be good enough for me apart from the massive price increases!! To put this in context though regarding their service, I 'accidentally' auto renewed onto a new tariff going from a great tariff (Simple and superfixed) onto Simple and superswitcher (I think?) and my payments went from £94 to £150 a month!! I felt sure I could do better (separate suppliers being the key) so emailed Avro asking them to cancel my renewal, they responded initially auto response then around 5-7 days later confirmed they had cancelled my renewal.

I then proceeded to look around and couldn't really find anything (Don't want to go with Symbio, Zog not bad for gas but not cheaper for me) SO I renewed with Avro at £142 a month on Simple and supersaver rather than move onto their simple energy tariff in the hope I can maybe bail out later in the year IF prices come down (although I doubt they will) because with Avro having no exit fees I guess it's a no brainer taking any cheaper tariff at the moment and Avro didn't take the funnies with me messing around with renewal/s so can't complain about them.

I know prices generally have increased but a 50% increase in DD suggests you might have had a debit balance which they will recoup over the next year.
By contrast, I am renewing to the 'SuperSaving' and my DD only increased by £1 pm. Yes, that's just £1 pm. I did have a significant credit balance on the existing 'SuperFixed' which they appear to have decided to repay over the next year rather than give me a refund at renewal. I'm well satisfied.

Only a £15 debit after end of contract but my usage increased (currently 21000 Gas and 6500 Electric) and I reckon they've adjusted the new DD to suit. No complaints though and may even build a credit over the summer.

Ah yes, you are now quite a high user.
Is this a temporary, covid-19 related, increase or do you expect it to stay that way for the next year?

    Just a quick heads-up
I see from this week's Money Tips email that MSE are offering a couple of Big Energy Switch tariffs with So Energy and Pure Planet.
