Symptomatic, perhaps, of home working not keeping up with the office ?
I could say I've been ok on that front so far but that would be inviting disaster, methinks.

    Not just tariffs, billing, too.
Since I rejoined AVRO I've fed in readings bang on the anniversary day of the month.  AVRO either ignores my readings or records my reading - and then also generates an estimated reading for the next day which adds, say, 2 to the reading I sent them.
    Que?
If you give readings actually on the billing day, they use them. Provide them a day or two early, they estimate what they think it would be on the billing day, or rather their computer does. ;)
It's usually pretty accurate though IME, which is more than can be said for their estimated annual usage, even when they've got actual history!

But that begs the question, what IS the billing day? As mentioned, I act on the anniversary date. If that is not the billing day, what is?

I'm with you polymaff, I've had the same issue (discussed previously about 40 pages back).  I've played chicken with the clock, sending readings just before midnight and just after on the billing date and neither have been used as a final number, they always estimate the closing number.  I send a meter reading religiously once per month and every bill contains at least 2 estimated readings and some with an N next to them.  I haven't even got a bill this month for a reading issued 8 days ago.  My other suppliers get bills to me within hours of submitting a reading (the Avro account is on an empty property I manage, not my own home).

I've always used the day in the "Statement Date" shown on the monthly statements. It works on the account I manage for a relative.

As Victor2 says, the billing date is the date shown on your monthly statement.  My billing date is the 7th of the month and I will typically receive a meter reading request from Avro on the 4th.  I used to immediately respond to these requests and submit my readings as soon as I received Avro's email, but I couldn't understand why my readings were never used to calculate my bills.  Then I read the discussion on here some time ago where someone had realised that you had to submit your readings ON your billing (statement) date.  I've been doing this ever since and my bills now seem to be generated against my actual usage.  However, I also see "readings" on my statements preceded by an "R", "C" or "N" - the meaning of first two are obvious, but the N less so, so I queried this with Avro and received this response: "I can confirm that an R reading is a meter reading taken by a meter reader technician. An 'N' reading is also a customer read, these may show as 'C' or 'N' reads in the your bill, it does tend to be the gas reads that will show as an 'N' reading due to the way in which they are updated onto the system. The 'N' is a 'non-estimated' read."

Just what I've been doing. In my case the 14th of the month. Avro have then added their own Estimated value, as late as the 17th.
My most recent statement - 14th July - ignores my submitted June reading entirely. Instead there's an E reading dated 14th June and then an E reading dated 17th June.
It's fun trying to reverse-engineer dodgy software, but this one confounds me !

Well, I've just double-checked my last 3 months' statements and they only show "C" or "N" readings (both customer readings as per my previous post) so it's working fine for me now.  I'm sorry they seem to be operating to some bizarre, alternative standard for you - maybe it depends on your surname, billing date, whether there's an R in the month and if there's a full moon .....? ;)
  • My billing date is the 1st of every month and I too receive an email a few days before 'reminding' me to submit meter readings so I just enter my readings on the 1st of every month and have received an accurate bill every time, so far so good I guess.

Ah well, there are worse things to face.
The only consistent act by AVRO billing dept. though is that, for both fuels, there are always two "readings" per month,  Usually E then E.
