sometimes its hard to keep up with all the 'moneysaving' you need to keep on top of!

Glad I checked in here earlier, already quite happy with Avro, on a fixed tariff due to end next Feb.

But this thread prompted me to running the quote onsite their current rates are lower than what I am on so I did a tariff switch early.

Hadn't even thought about during it early but with no penalties why not!

Electric 0.683p kWh cheaper, gas 0.64p kWh cheaper, standing charges the same. going to add up as we are quite a heavy user.

It's also better than switching to a different company because you don't have to wait nearly three weeks to get the better rates. :)

Yes and you get another whole years fix but with no penalty if I need to change before.

I was looking to change and have been happy with Avro. So when I checked MSE and Avro was the cheapest I thought I would see if I could swop tariffs.

When I did the quote on Avro the gas units were more expensive (it was def the same tariff name) - just thought I would let people know how important it is to check everything when swapping.

I was moving from Simple and Prime (which is fixed until Feb.) to Simple and Supersave.

Did you actually complete your switch to Simple&Supersave?,...I hope you did because you should see a considerable saving,...the gas, leccy and standing charges are ALL cheaper than Simple&Prime.

Do a comparison on the CitizensAdviceComparison tool;...if you drill down through the results into the ‘Tariff Information’ section it will show you a table that gives the exact Kwh charge for gas & leccy plus the standing charges. The info for both tariffs (Prime and Supersave) is listed side-by-side so it’s very easy to see how the unit costs compare.

The gas unit rate of 2.966p/Kwh for Simple&Supersave on CitizensAdvice tallies exactly with the rate quoted on Avro’s own website; ...the gas cost (2.966p/Kwh) that I quoted is dependent on post-code. Your quoted cost may differ slightly.
  • Well I am getting confused - have now come back to this as I didn't swap at the time - the citizens advice comparison tool is showing my current simple and prime units as more expensive than I am paying! both with standing charges and unit prices and although I am sure I will still save - I wont save as much as they say as their unit prices are not the same as mine!

current standing charge prices for gas and elec are 16.0/day (CAdvice says I am paying 16.8, New Avro will be 16.8), current unit charge is gas 3.05 (CAdvice says I am paying 3.203, new Avro will be 2.861) and elect is 13.25 (CAdvice says I am paying 13.913, new Avro 12.941) Hope that makes sense.

You've forgotten to add 5% VAT.
  • Thanks Gerry1 - at least this time its the same numbers on avro as on cheap money club
  • I initiated the dual fuel switch from Avro to British Gas on 7th July 2019, it's now at the end of October and the electricity part of the switch still hasn't completed. There was an outstanding amount to pay Avro, which resulted in them initially blocking the switch, but I paid this off in full on July 29th. Since then they have repeatedly blocked the switch, despite claiming they had released the cancellation block. I kept receiving letters from British Gas saying the switch had been cancelled by my previous provider and also advising me of the start date for supply.
In their latest letter British Gas requested new meter readings and said supply would start 18th October, but the online account said the switch was still cancelled! I provided the new meter readings to BG by text and then online on the 24th, but today there was no sign of them on the account.
I phoned today and they tell me that they are waiting for my previous supplier, Avro to provide the final meter readings from August! The call centre were helpful in taking my meter serial number, readings from August and today and seeing if they can push through the switch. Will see what happens...
To make matters worse I am still paying a direct debit to Avro, but this does not seem to be accumulating any credit on my account when I check the account online.
In summary this has been the worst switch I've ever done, a complete mess.

I'd say your best bet is the start the complaints procedure for both suppliers. Keep notes of all communications to send to the ombudsman to sort out.

If you're not too sure how to complain the you could use MSE's <Resolver complaints tool> to help.
