I seem to recall that there was a slight delay in setting things up, but everything soon went smoothly. The minimalist website worked well and I had no complaints. Best of all there were no exit fees and I switched several times when Avro brought out new tariffs that were cheaper: I just phoned them and the switch went through in a day or two.

I'd happily go back to them, I only switched to Yorkshire Energy because I'm a cheapskate ! No problems with YE either.

How do I find the new Avro tariffs to check I'm on their best one?

I see that British Gas are only £32 pa more on a fixed tariff and Green box variable tariff is £41pa cheaper than my Avro, so how do I find new Avro tariffs if they are not listed on Money Saving Expert Cheap Energy Club?

Go to the Avro website, but do not log in. Instead click "Get A Quote". Once you fill in your address details, it detects you are an existing customer and takes you to a login page to get a renewal quote.

Weird, but that's how their site works. :)

I recently moved away from Avro after they stopped producing my online bills and refused to reply to my requests to refund my account credit which was accumulated due to an overly high direct debit.

Now that I'm with E-on, they are still taking direct debit payments and not replying to my emails and impossible to get through on the phone.

A month later and I'm still waiting for a £250 refund

    Would not recommend them.

You can see all new tariff updates at Energylinx (use 'Find' Avro) where you'll see the latest launch was on 9 August.

Use Citizens Advice and Which? to find all suppliers.
  • I have just checked into my MSE Cheap Energy Club account, and was pleased to see that I am still on the best deal, with Avro.
But I was a bit puzzled to see that the reviews stars were blank, due to "Not enough feedback": I'd like to leave feedback, but I can't see any way for me to do so other via this forum. Have I missed something? I have been with Avro for a few years now, and my experience has been most positive.

You've missed the bit that the CEC isn't an accredited Ofgem comparison site. It doesn't like Avro because it doesn't pay commission, so despite having over 1100 reviews on this thread, mostly favourable, it always tries to rubbish them by saying 'Not Enough Feedback'.

The latest CEC wheeze is the pop-up which invites you to see only the suppliers rated 'OK and above'. Guess what - Avro has no rating so, very conveniently, it completely disappears ! icon8.gif

If you do switch tariff online you may find that your D/D changes as a result!

I joined Avro in early July on the Simple&Superfix tariff. When I switched to Simple&Supersave last week (online) they immediately increased my D/D from £96 to £102,.... despite the fact that my new tariff (Simple&Supersave) is ever so slightly cheaper! My D/D has been £96 since the day I joined.

    When I queried the reason for the increased D/D I received this response from Avro;

"When you sign up with us, we receive your annual usage figures directly from the UK national database based on previous usage at your property.

Due to this, your quote on Simple and SuperSave would have been based on these figures. "

I’m perfectly ok with the increased D/D but it just leaves me wondering why they’ve been undercharging me since I joined ‽

That's amazing, few people seem to know that. So why do all the price comparison websites and energy suppliers mess around asking you what sort of property you have, or how much you spend or use?

Why don't they just ask for your address, look up your usage and show instant results?

I've been with Avro for a while now and so far I have no real complaints apart from how basic the website is, but if it does the job and keeps prices low, I'm happy!

They overestimated my initial direct debit and I was paying £120/month, but as I wasn't in the property at the time (but still giving meter readings) I ended up around £500 in credit. Took a few emails to get this refunded, but it was all sorted within a week of my initial email.

I also changed plan to a cheaper one of theirs via email, seemed a bit strange rather than doing it through a proper website process, but again, I was kept updated and had new emails sent confirming the plan I switched to.

Overall experience is positive, so much so, my parents have now also switched to Avro with no hiccups!

It would be good if the comparison sites had instant access to the ‘UK National database’,...I guess it would alleviate many problems.

But will that ever happen???;...Avro’s statement is a little vague but it does say that they get annual usage figures when a customer has signed up,...not necessarily at the ‘quote’ stage.

I would hazard a guess that there’s probably/possibly a fee involved and perhaps they get the customers detailed annual usage figures along with the ‘verified meter readings’.

I’ve really no idea to be honest,....just musing. :)
