i wouldn't say i'm an atheist, more agonostic (if thats the one where you'd believe in it if there was actual proof?)

Not quite. I expect most atheists would 'believe' if there were proof, actual proof makes it impossible for a rational person not to! I might prefer that Donald Trump didn't exist, for example, but there's very good evidence that he does so no point me denying it.

Atheist means you don't currently believe in the existence of any gods. Agnostic means sitting on the fence about the whole thing. ;)

Ok, I stand corrected, not all Christians believe I'm going to hell but some do I therefore I probably wouldn't a good match for them. My comment about going to hell wasn't just aimed at Christians though. People of other faiths could also believe I have that fate too. I would not like to cause some distress throughout our married life about whether I'm going to end up which would make my incompatible with someone who did believe I was going to hell.

I'm pretty certain in Islam being an atheist is a sin as is marrying an atheist so again I wouldn't be a good match. I do know a Muslim who has lost his faith but won't tell his wife because then she would be complicit in this sin (even though he doesn't think it's a sin if you see what I mean). None of my Muslim friends have married outside their faith and in fact my cousin converted from Catholicism to Islam to marry her husband.

Come to think of it none of my Jewish friends have married outside their faith either. My friend's wife converted from Catholicism (there's a lot of Catholic defectors is my social circle) to Judaism before they were married.

One poster said that there are those who believe the Earth is only 2015 years old. Creationists believe the world is around 6000 years old. Their belief isn't that the world was created when Jesus was born otherwise there wouldn't have been time for the Ark or Moses to get the Jews out of Egypt.

I was in a project meeting earlier this year and it turns out the project manager is a creationist (I think possibly the Free Church of Scotland) and I said something about the oil being in the ground for millions of years and he said, "steady on the Earth is only 6000 years old." So I left at "a very long time."

Yes, I am sure that the more sensible religious bods don't take their religious texts literally - and such people are probably oK with eating bacon, working on the sabbath, mixing their fabrics, touching a woman on their period etc etc. They are also probably fine shacking up with an atheist as well.

However, if you do believe all the fire-and-brimstone stuff, and you do believe that the only way into heaven is by devoting your life to Jesus, then I don't see how an atheist could make you happy.
Sure. I just made a remark that not all believers are the same and when speculating what they may think it is handy to remember they don't have to interpret bible literally. Not sure about eating bacon though, as it is a question of culture and taste buds , may be it is disgusting like maggots to them :D
The word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.

Doesn't this whole range of opinion prove that a whole range of people can be compatible?

Stereotyping really reduces the opportunity to meet someone you are actually compatible with. And there is an awful lot of stereotyping going on in this thread.

So with regards to compatibility then, it would be naive to rule out a Christian as they may be more of a " sensible religious bod ".

This thread only goes to prove that the majority of people who identify themselves as "Christian" only follow a vague notion of the traditional definition of Christianity as laid out in the Bible. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - it's great that people are able to adapt to new ways of thinking - but people like Torry wouldn't consider such people to be true Christians.

I agree with this. Which is why compatibility is a lot more complex or simple than what one person may or may not think another person believes.
