what volunteer work did you do when on jca?

I worked in a local charity shop
  • Why are you accusing me of being nasty when I'm not being nasty?

    Stop it.

    Now who is being nasty?

No need to verbally abuse me because I am saying things you don't agree with.

I don't know what your problem is, but you seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder, both of you, so I'm out of here.

Bye bye then, no loss, just wondered how my post was not serious

    Entitlement is not earned -

    entitlement ‎(plural entitlements)
    1. The right to have something, whether actual or perceived.
    2. power, authority to do something
    3. Something that one is entitled to.
For nearly 30 Years I have PAID into a safety net to secure me if I found my self out of work. I dont EARN it, I pay for it.

I EARN my wages, I would not be working otherwise. ;)

You earn it by paying in to it, therefore entitlement to benefits is earned (is it not), my point is why should people who can't be bothered to work be ENTITLED to benefits at all

My point is....What about the MAJORITY of those out of work who could be bothered? Should they all be made to suffer as a result of the few who could not be bothered? Am I paying into this to be taught their lesson?

  • No I am saying that we need to differentiate between the 2, not punish the innocent
  • But in the same breath if you are long-term unemployed then maybe you need to change the way you do things, and maybe have a little leeway when it comes to "working for nowt", actual voluntary positions with charities or schools, or doing menial jobs, may look good on your CV, at least a prospective employer can see that you have the willingness to work

But that is not what is happening is it? Its the majority who have paid into this, earned their benefit as you say, who find they are only entitled to it, if they work at poundland.

But its only for 8 weeks (to start with) and hey....it might just look good on your CV. All because of a few bad eggs.

  • you really have an issue with this don't you

I for one have been working for the last 15 months, I have paid in to the system, if I found myself unemployed again, I would not hesitate to take a "work experience" placement at poundland, as I believe in the power of positive thinking, (e.g. if I do this it will help be to find paid employment), also I would feel like I have earned my money not been given it

Then its down to being just your opinion. I feel I have enough work experience NOT to need to work at Poundland to gain any extra experience should I find myself redundant.

As such, the insurance scheme I have paid into all these Years, should not then be telling me they only pay out if I agree to stacking some shelves in order for a company to be making a profit out of me.

  • I don't think you get the point of what the government is doing, by doing "work experience" placements they can see who are the bad eggs, as you say, and who is actually willing to do some work for a living, I am also sure that you would not come straight from work into the "work experience" bracket anyway, I guess that is for when you have been unemployed for a while
