I was sent to pounland to to some "volunteering" I started yesterday there was 3 of us starting but the other 2 were paid staff.
when I arrived I was told that I would not be using tills as work experience are not allowed?
the other 2 where put straight on tills to be trained.
I wasn't given a locker again the other 2 were I was expected to leave my bag and coat in the staff room.
I didn't even get given the uniform, again the other 2 were
then the woman who I was put with to show me what to do, said why are you doing work experience at your age
I then heard her talking about me to another member of staff.
so I just walked out.
I don't like being treated differently do other staff just because they will be getting paid and I wont.
and I didn't feel safe leaving all my stuff in the staff room
I know I am going to get sanctioned.
should I have just stuck it out for 8 weeks ??0 -
no, I just wanted to know where you had done volunteer work, as I said I am now going to do volunteer work in a charity shop.
I was told by a member of staff in poundland that usually at this time of year they would have had temporary Christmas staff starting, but instead they just have "volunteers" so they are replacing paid staff.
and I am not long term unemployed I have been unemployed for just over a month, and I have 4 years retail experience.
I don't mind doing work experience put not for a million pound company that are using you for profits.0 -
This site gives me the impression I'm not alone in having a bad impression of Job Centre Plus staff. I would go so far as to say many of them are not fit for purpose:

If you think that's bad you should read some work programme experiences. There is a thread on another forum about one of the work programmes called Ingeus. Massive thread, I'm not sure anyone had a good word to say. For the most part it was stories of job losses and harassment. It's been going for just over 4 years.
I found it a few years back when I searched work programmes, wondering what others had to say on them. Bit of a depressing read, but some good advice for anyone on any work programme.
I've seen other threads for specific work programmes, but none quite so long. Ingeus is one of the main work programmes I think, they've got offices all over the UK.
They get articles and forum threads removed though. Even on here. You search for them and not a single result, but I know there have been threads and mentions of them.
Their own site is considered untrustworthy by WOT (Web Of Trust).
If you look on a site called glassdoor even the employees are mostly reviewing the place as 1 or 2 stars.
None of the that makes the JC look any better though, they're far too happy to push you over to the work programmes and I'm sure plenty of JC staff have lied about things involving the WP.0 -

No uniform given? That is odd. Even for work experience they should have provided you with a uniform to work there.
8 weeks is not too bad. I heard the work experience can be for up to 6 months for some people.0
