walked out of jobcentre work experience

I was sent to pounland to to some "volunteering" I started yesterday there was 3 of us starting but the other 2 were paid staff.
when I arrived I was told that I would not be using tills as work experience are not allowed?
the other 2 where put straight on tills to be trained.
I wasn't given a locker again the other 2 were I was expected to leave my bag and coat in the staff room.
I didn't even get given the uniform, again the other 2 were
then the woman who I was put with to show me what to do, said why are you doing work experience at your age
I then heard her talking about me to another member of staff.
so I just walked out.
I don't like being treated differently do other staff just because they will be getting paid and I wont.
and I didn't feel safe leaving all my stuff in the staff room
I know I am going to get sanctioned.
should I have just stuck it out for 8 weeks ??

Yes, probably, as rotten as it sounds.
Paid staff are always going to be treated differently to volunteers and whilst I don't agree with workfare, you may have shot yourself in the foot regarding your JSA. Have you considering going back and apologising?Proud to be debt free September 2014. :j

If you just walked out without any conversation with the manager, or the jobcentre , unfortunately I cant see anything other than a sanction.
Maybe you should have stuck it out, or at least discussed it with someone first.0 -

You will most probably be sanctioned. You can't just walk out without good reason and your reasons in my opinion aren't good enough. You can appeal to the jobcentre and they may reduce your sanction if they feel you were justified in walking out.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I do think you haave shot yourself in the foot, both with pounland and the jobcentre, i agree with previouws posters your reasons arent good enough to leave and will no doubt get a sanction.0

Whilst I agree that the OP will probably get sanctioned, I think that anyone would be really peeved with the way they were treated.
Not having a locker to keep things safe is unacceptable, and being treated differently to other staff - no uniform, not being allowed to work on the tills is wrong and is discrimination.
Finally and most importantly, this is NOT volunteering, it is being forced to do unpaid work for a commercial organisation.0 -
Think a lot are missing the point. Okay for Op to be sanctioned but okay for tinpot companies like Poundland to be getting away with slave labour.0

Not missing the point, but given what the OP asked, he was given answers related to this, not thoughts of liking/not liking Poundland using workfare.
Not sure anyone said that it was OK for the OP to be sanctioned, only that he probably would be.0 -

well done hopefully workfare is coming undone. If you get sanctioned list all the reasons and points it was unfair and underline them. Ask if poundlound would have been responsible if your bag is stolen. Bet staff don't have to leave their bags lying around. People on workfare are often treated badly. Many placements break down.
At the end of the day you are not supposed to be worse off by attending these things check out all the paperwork you were given.:footie:0 -

when people are on placement they are meant to be treated as staff its in the rules. Were Poundland going to replace the bag and contents also if stolen.
Disgusting Company taking people on when they should be paying them.:footie:0
