They're only unsafe if someone actually steals it! And if that's the case and the thief actually uses the card then you'll be reimbursed by the bank or credit card company. What happens if you lose a wallet full of cash? It's gone forever then!
Also, if someone steals your card and runs up a load of chip and pin transactions, you'll have quite a fight on your hands to get the money refunded because the bank will insist you must have been careless with your pin. Whereas, it is probably much easier to get a refund for unauthorised contactless transactions, where the transactions are unverified.

Its contents are usually yes, I think I lost a wallet once in my lifetime.

Luckily I was not daft enough to have all my money in it. I think about £20 was lost back then, my bank still had the majority of my cash safely locked up (long before these contactless hazards meant anyone could have it without even needing my signature or pin) , although they did have to replace my then voided debit card.

I never wanted or applied for a contactless, I was TOLD to have one, else have my account downgraded to a basic. I dont care how safe you think they might be, I should not be forced into having one because anon says they are ....as safe.

One *possible* upside to contactless transactions is the fact every so often you're required to enter your PIN for security reasons.

Obviously this wouldn't be made public by the banks but if you'd used your card say, three times, and then your card is stolen and a contactless payment is attempted the terminal may ask for a Chip and PIN transaction on the fourth go.

Short of writing your PIN down somewhere next to your cards/being shoulder-surfed obviously.

    Sainsbury's.

In fact I'm flabbergasted they have zero interest in contactless.

    Solo cards don't exist anymore...

My first Solo Card was with Midland Bank/HSBC for their Live Cash account; that makes me feel old!

I guess one way (certainly around NatWest) would be to open a "Basic" current account and fund that with any card transactions you wanted to use when out and about on the High Street.

Contactless isn't for everyone and whilst I enjoy using it I know there are plenty of people who don't.

I know they don't; the post I replied to mentioned them and I was merely reminiscing that's all.

Use some of the vast fortune you made from switching accounts and treat yourself to one.

    I am with you.

We also do not have internet banking, do not trust it for one minute. I have lost count of the number of people I know who have had fraudulent transactions made on their accounts and you only have to look on the forums here to see those that have had to fight the bank to sort it all out.

We manage perfectly well without and would rather not have the potential aggro.
