On the subject of contactless cards, how many credit cards are contactless? My Barclaycard is but I'm not aware of any others.
    Roughly 50:50 for me...

    Contactless:

    Halifax
    Lloyds Platinum
    Santander 1-2-3
    Virgin Atlantic
    Yorkshire Bank Gold

    Non-contactless:

    Nationwide Select
    Sainsbury's
    Santander Zero
    Tesco

I had to buy a shielded wallet for my choice of NOT wanting to use them. Either that or being forced to downgrade to a solo card as some form of punishment for NOT wanting contactless. Thankfully have not been forced into using it yet, a list of those who insist you use contactless will certainly come in handy, I can then choose to boycott such stores. Cheers for the boycott list OP. ;)

I'm not sure how boycotting those shops will make you any safer. After all, it's when someone steals your card that contactless presents a potential problem. If it is a feature of your card, then a thief could exploit it, whether or not you personally use it. Better to do some precision drilling of your card.

Cash is king in my book, any shop that no longer wants to deal with cash or standard payment cards cannot be that much of a loss were I to go elsewhere.

Albeit the card should be safe in its protective wallet without the need to drill into it. One might just question why banks insist on sending cards to customers who then need to precision drill them to ensure they are safe. ;)

NatWest don't offer this, you have to downgrade to a Solo card.

We've gone for your latter option :D

My first Solo Card was with Midland Bank/HSBC for their Live Cash account; that makes me feel old!

I guess one way (certainly around NatWest) would be to open a "Basic" current account and fund that with any card transactions you wanted to use when out and about on the High Street.

Contactless isn't for everyone and whilst I enjoy using it I know there are plenty of people who don't.

They're only unsafe if someone actually steals it! And if that's the case and the thief actually uses the card then you'll be reimbursed by the bank or credit card company. What happens if you lose a wallet full of cash? It's gone forever then!

My OH was sent a contactless card by his bank when his card was due for renewal. He then had to ring them up and tell them he did not want one, and then had to wait for an ordinary one to be sent out.

I think this is wrong to be sent one without it being requested.

I agree. If you don't wish to have a contactless card then your issuing bank shouldn't automatically "assume" you want/need one.

If you have Apple Pay, at least Nationwide Select and Tesco can also be used in contactless mode.

I think you're missing the point. A contactless card in your possession is safe; a contactless card in your "protective wallet", which then gets lifted out of your pocket, is not. If you belive contactless is unsafe, then the only way to correct that is to carry cards which are not capable of making contactless transactions.

Whilst owning an Apple product isn't for everyone that's one of the reasons I enjoy using Apple Pay on my iPhone/Watch.

Yes, they are expensive for what they are BUT I do feel "safer" using the service because me, and only myself, can 'authorise' the payment with my finger print.

Should my devices fall into the wrong hands I can log into "Find my iPhone" and disable the cards remotely.
