Lois - Its the same with me and Turkey Mince, exactly the same situation!0

Thank you everyone for your wishes for a good holiday - can't wait to get away:j.
As we've got a motorhome we don't ever stay in one place for very long, max of 2 days, but more often than not just a day, particularly if the weather is bad!
No idea where we're going yet other than across to Calais on the train. We'll look at the map on the train, along with the weather forecast on the ipad, and then decide which direction to head for. The only certain things are that 1) we are leaving tomorrow afternoon and 2) we will be returning on 3 January 2016 :rotfl:. We'll also pop across the border into Belgium either at the beginning of the holiday or a day or two before we come back.
Back to SW things! I checked on my scales and decided I would weigh as it looked as though I'd STS, so still within target range. My scales are fairly accurate and I did indeed STS, so happy with that after the very synful wedding reception Saturday night:D.
It's an almost certainty that I will have a gain on return from France and I also make it an excuse to have plenty of cheese and wine:rotfl:. Also have plenty of French bread too.
I'll be cooking most evening meals so they will be on plan (ish!). There will also be plenty of Free foods - eggs, cold meats, salad, steak, chops, fish, prawns, mussels etc so hoping the gain won't be massive.
Think that's a long enough post for now.

Back to my pre tonsillitis weight. Despite of being Nanan's birthday on Sunday where I drank 2 glasses of Prosecco and a thin slither of chocolate cake. Then at work yesterday, it was our Christmas buffet in the canteen and I had 2 large veggie samosas which a colleague made for us. Stayed clear of the pork pies, sausage rolls, mince pies, cakes etc.
If I didn't consume the above, I would be a pound lighter.
I can take it fairly easy over Xmas/NY as I have a meeting on XE. but the NYE meeting has been rescheduled to 2/1 at a slightly later time. I am working on the 2/1 so booked it off, got the next WI on 7/1. I never have Xmas food in my home. Though if I see the special large packs of smoked salmon or ham in the reduced after Xmas, I will stock the freezer with them. Then I'm working 26/12. As it falls on Saturday, we can't book it off - don't ask me why, so parents and I are having the main Xmas dinner XE evening. So the boring days between Xmas and NY, I will be eating to the plan. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Does anyone have any ideas for me to bring in for the taster session next Thursday? I don't have a mixer, cake tins. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Your day sounds very British lois. Do the Spanish have mince pies?
No. Mince pies are available at certain outlets that cater for the ex-pats. There's an English supermarket and an English butcher nearby that stock them, or I could go to Iceland, which is about half an hour's drive way, but I don't tend to go to any of those places, I prefer to shop in the Spanish supermarkets.
The Spanish particularly like Ferrero Rocher, and Christmas sweets are available - they're sold on brightly coloured foil trays that look very festive, but the sweets aren't that nice IMO. The big thing for the Spanish is the cured Iberico ham - they cost €150 for a leg and loads are sold. The smell of them all en masses is enough to turn my stomach! They also buy cheeses, Manchego is the most expensive and very tasty.
I don't know what their traditional festive meal is - turkeys are available but not in large quantities, they always buy lots of fish and seafood so I think they probably form a big part of their festive menu, and there are usually chorizo promoted near the tills so I imagine they have those to snack on.
On Christmas Day in the hotel in Benidorm last year they had paella with squid ink - the Spanish were all over it, the Brits stood back. :rotfl:
Have a good evening.

I'm hoping to do something on those boring days other than eat too much. I really hope the weather is dry enough to get out for some walks.ScarletMarble wrote: »Does anyone have any ideas for me to bring in for the taster session next Thursday? I don't have a mixer, cake tins.
I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to taster days. While I cook lot from scratch it's always meals rather than baking. I tend to take something really easy. So a packet of Mikados at half a syn each or cut up a pineapple or I've done veg sticks with a simple free dip from FF yogurt and mint sauce or buy a salsa dip (very low syn). If you really want to cook something you could make a frittata/Spanish omelette in the frying pan and cut it into bite size pieces or bake some tiny new potatoes and put a dollop of cottage cheese in each or Philly and sprinkle a few cut chives to look artistic.;)
That's interesting about the Spanish Christmas lois. People are raving about those hams here at the moment as they've got them in Lidl at an apparently good price and I've seen manchego in Aldi. I think it's great that we can eat foods from all over the world.
:wave:tweets, not seen you around lately. Good to see you're maintaining well. Any temptations round your way?
Had great lunch, much as expected SW wise. Starter salmon and salad very SW, steak in red wine jus with salad and chips and then the synful cheese board and wine syns. Not too much wine but did have a ginger wine to be festive and that's 10 syns for a small glass compared to 4 for a dry white!
I'm still feeling stuffed so unlikely to want anything else today. Line drawn for a while and I'll do my meal plan later. The coming week looks OK except for another nibbly buffet on Saturday.0 -
Beg - how is your Mum? Are you still staying with her?
Physically Mum's doing quite well (imo) Lois but it is now hitting her that she cannot pick the phone up and have a chat to her sister any longer. Even though they were many miles apart, they would chat on the phone most days. I'm still staying with her for the time being but leaving her for some time to pop out for shopping and even give her a little space. She doesn't sleep well at the best of times so now sleep is non-existent. The dr gave me a few sleeping pills for her today to try but she says if she took one she might not wake up
Enjoy your holibobs Denise and we'll all still be here when you get back:rotfl:

Sounds like you're doing really well scarlet and pleased to hear you're over the tonsillitis. Looking at your signature you're almost half way to target. At an average loss (1.5lbs a week) you'll be bikini ready by midsummer!:D

Glad your mum is improving well. It'll take her some time to grieve properly.
I'm sure I'll enjoy my holiday and I'll definitely be needing you all when I get back, LOL!
