I noticed on the supermarket today that Aunt Bessie does frozen Carrot and Swede Mash which is 0.5 syns per 100g, because it has butter in I guess. Would this still count as speed? Trying to work out whether it would be better to use some of that or to mash sweet potatoes (with no added butter) on top of a shepherd's pie ... as far as I remember sweet potatoes are not speed... ???
I would count it as speed! No different to if you added a bit of butter when you mashed the veg yourself. Let me know what it's like if you try it. Probably my biggest kitchen annoyance is making that mash!
And yes, sweet potatoes aren't speed - just free.0 -
Thanks June, I'll pick some up tomorrow or Monday - it was on special offer in Tesco, possibly £1 a bag?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0

Reporting a 2.5lb loss this morning. I did end up staying to group and got slimmer of the month! Bit surprised as I never get SOTW due to big losses by other members but I guess they're not losing consistently. So a nice sparkly sticker for my book.
Thanks for the heads up on BMS, unfortunately I read it after I'd been shopping so I'll try another day.
DH commented that we had an awful lots of carrots when he unpacked the shopping!:rotfl:Probably my biggest kitchen annoyance is making that mash!
I used to think that until I discovered 'singing swede'
http://vicki-kitchen.blogspot.co.uk/2013/02/the-singing-swede-slimming-world.html
I try to prep it beforehand as it's much easier to handle when cool. Then I just cook up some carrots, mash and stir in mashed swede and plenty of pepper. I put it in a dish, sprinkle with some cheese pinched from HEA and bake in the oven for 20 mins or so. This freezes well too. Obviously not as easy as Aunt Bessies' though!:rotfl:
Glad the antibiotics are working for you lois but so sorry to hear about your friends.
I'm feeling much slimmer but determined to do as much SP as I can this week. It won't be all my meals though as I think DH would miss not having any carbs and I don't have the willpower to watch him eat them:o.
Today's EE plan:
B: NAS Grapefruit, 2 fried eggs, HEB toast
L: ham and stir fried veg (mushrooms, spring onion, peppers, mange tout, sugar snaps and carrot) with soy sauce and 5 spiceLidl BBQ beef, patatas bravas, mixed greens (peas, mange tout, broccoli), mushrooms
Syns: squirt of HP, weekend wine:j0 -
Me again.
Sorry I forgot to say welcome to debjay. Good to see you over here. No need to wait until the next challenge. Just post what you'd like to lose by Christmas and the lovely shala will add you to the list. Just shout if you've got any questions.
Also, when I was reading the blog about the 'singing swede' I noticed a recommendation for the restaurant chain Tortilla. I'd never heard of it but now realise there's one in my local shopping centre and loads in London. Apparently they do something called 'naked burrito' which is a bowl of the fillings so quite SW friendly. Next time I'm hungry when I'm shopping I'm going to give it a try.0 -
Welcome debjay and well done on your loss June!:j
A 2.5lb lossfor me this week please shala
Really going to stick to it this week as another 2.5lbs would get me my 1.5stone award. Also want to lose another couple of pounds over that before xmas so that I hopefully don't slip below the 1.5 stone with the extra eating.
Food today:
B - Hifi (half HEB), banana
L - Subway salad (1.5)
S - Hifi (half HEB)
D - Chicken balti (1), rice, poppadum (1.5), ff greek yoghurt, cherries
E - Popcorn (6), jelly (0.5)
Total syns - 10.5. Not really enough speed. I really struggle to get that in, as my favourite fruits are the non speedy ones!
Tomorrow:
B - Activia, clementine, banana
L - possibly lunch out, save HEB and HEA just in case
D - Tarragon chicken (0.5), rosemary potatoes, roasted med veg, ff greek yoghurt, cherries0 -
Me again.

Tortilla is lovely maman. When I was working in London, we had one just down the street and I'd go... well, more often than I should admit on MSE.Would be very SW friendly though as the fillings are all done Subway style, so you can choose exactly what and how much goes in. You can also get lettuce instead of the rice if you want to make it SP. I recommend the adobo spiced chicken, lush!
I tried the singing swede once but on its own, and DH told me to never make it again! I may try adding in some carrots as well though, see if that would be acceptable. I just don't find either to mash very well, it's always more like a crush than a smooth mash. And the one time I tried (briefly) whizzing it to make it smoother, have never heard the end of serving him baby food! :rotfl:0 -

No good news today 1 lb Gain I have only myself to blame as I had a bad week, eating bit's and bats that I shouldn't I didn't stick to the planned menues every day. I will this week though !!
Hope everyone else has lost.0 -
Wi was 1lb gain, not surprised as eaten more bread this week.
Feel like death warmed up today, son went to rock concert at Wembley yesterday, hubby picked him up from train at 2.15am finally home 2.30am. Poor hubby had work at 7.30 and typically is very busy, any other Sunday there's not much on so he could kip in the chair between jobs (works from home as engineer). So yesterday was very stressful, I couldn't concentrate on anything. Brought work home to laminate and didn't even get laminator out of box. Don't feel like it today either but need it for tomorrow so must do it (later
).
Typically boy still in his pit! Doing it all again next month .Its not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T
