Abandoned Vehicle on my Drive!

Does OP live near an airport? Has the owner of the car mistakenly parked in what he/she thought was a friend's drive? (Already suggested by someone but that was also my first thought on reading this)0

Gosh, thought someone would have been back to it by now! What have you had to do with your car? Can you still get onto your drive? Do you own your house - its not rented and the landlord okayed someone to park there?
Hope you get something sorted with it soon!Weight Loss - 102lb0 -

Yes, I can still get on to my drive!, I own my House for (5 Years+)
I can't believe the attitude of the police0 -
Why not give your MP a call? The police have ignored what is a potential bomb threat. I thought that was a bit of an extreme way of thinking at first, but now you say it is next to a train station, I don't think it is. Amazing what a quick call from your MP's office can do ...
The only issue with this, is that you won't find out who the owner is ... and I really want to know! xGone ... or have I?0 -
i would definatly be chaining the gates up if you have gates.
if they do show up in the meantime they can go through the police to get their car back0 -
The Police are lazy / totally disorganised barstewards in so many areas now. I dialled 999 twice in 20 minutes the other night first because a gang of about ten 15/16 y olds were seriously breaching the peace in a very unusually loud and riotous fashion, which reminded me of the aftermath of a serious stabbing two years ago in exactly the same spot, and I called again when I became aware of them giving serious abuse to a middle-aged man outside my house and that they were swinging weapons. The man had also picked up something to protect himself and was backing away down our street. While I was talking to the police the second time I witnessed an actual assault when the gang threw things and the man was hit on the head. I of course immdiately told them what I'd just seen and asked them to come immediately. I heard no police sirens and I heard nothing more from the police.
I live in a fairly nice part of town
I personally would not bother with the police any further with this issue you have. They've had their chance. They probably haven't even got a note of it.
I would use my contacts to cause a heavy farm tractor to appear in broad daylight with a chain - the chain would be unceremoniously hooked on this piece of junk and it would be dragged to the nearest double yellow line out of my sight and not causing anyone else inconvenience, and be redumped in plod's domain. You will of course not be seen to be supervising. I wouldn't worry about the alarm going off as no-one else will either. This action would serve two purposes:
1. If you do have a neighbour who thinks you're a soft touch (yes there are hoards of these types in UK now) and has told a friend to exploit it then they will learn that you have industrial-sized friends.
2. You will feel so much better by teatime !
That's the common law approach as practised through the ages. Never mind the namby-pamby Cherie/Tony/Charlie variations which no normal person understands.
If plod then came knocking at my door I would shrug my shoulders and say sorry I can't help you and sorry you couldn't help me. Good evening officers.
Good luck with whatever you decide to do and I'd love to think you actually will have cause to be quietly smiling to yourself by teatime0 -
Do you know anyone in the insurance business? Just wondering whether there's some central database you could type the licence number into to churn out a name and address? and maybe the insurer which gives you various options?
I personally would go the reporting it as a suspect vehicle route. Genuinely - someone leaving a nice car abandoned? it could seriously be suspect. Is there some terrorism hotline to ring instead of the police?
Or the window smashing route to then move it out onto the road. Do it at night, then, push it a way away from your house. If you get any grief off the owner if they ever turn up, just say you got someone to tow it onto the road and who knows what happened next, maybe it was those chav kids that hang around sometimes put a brick through the window... (although the lack of broken glass under the car may put paid to that... perhaps you could brush it off your drive and redeposit it in its new location!!)0 -
I would put up a sign saying £100 release fee and clamp the car.
