Abandoned Vehicle on my Drive!
Comments

They were probably too busy dealing with cars parked on private property.0

If I were in this position I would quite simply block it in by whatever means(chain gate etc...)....or if it is in my way drag it onto the road. Either one should take no more than 10 mins. End of.oneofmylegsisboththesame0

I always have this problem, people use my drive as a car park blocking the enterence to my garage. It`s more than annoying, makes my blood boil!
I was told by police that if you remove the car off your land you are liable for any damage caused, but it`s extremely difficult to prove the damage was caused by you.
I would invest in one of those metal collapsible poles what you put in the concrete to stop it happening again.
Is there some sort of abandonment law which says that if something is left on your private land for so many days it becomes yours?Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
This thread has made me smile.
Heres my suggestion;
1) Find local a local chav or ned, not youth, normal youths are too nice for this
2) Ask your chav/ned to break into the car with minimum damage
3) Pay your chav/ned in Buckfast if your in Scotland or whatever the English equivelent is if your in England.
4) Tell your chav/ned what happens to the car after its gone from your driveway is not your problem.

Stick it on Freecycle, and give a contact address in the advert as your local police station phone number (not 999)...0

I'd be tempted to roll with
a) the suspicious package idea...I just love the idea of them coming back to find their car's been controlled exploded.
Or...and I know this would cost a lot (but would, I think be worth it...)
b) Get a tow truck and tow it somewhere...Just off into the middle of the woods, somewhere people don't go very often...
Then if they come looking, just say "this is *my* driveway...*I* park here...see...here's my car...on my drive...why would your car be here..?...no idea what you're talking about..."
They don't know it wasn't stolen from your drive beforey you got back...And you'd know where it is if there does turn out to be a good explanation...0 -
In fairness to the police there is nothing they can do. This is not a criminal matter.
Trespass isn't a criminal offence, and I'm just not buying in to the idea that terrorists want to car bomb a three bed semi in Surbiton or wherever the OP lives. Even if it was an offence, I very much doubt the irritating git that has done this had any criminal intent, there's probably just been a mistake.
Anyway, either just move the thing, as is your right, without causing any damage or block it in and have words with the owner when they return.
If you do happen to cause any damage, the police aren't likely to be on your back, as long as you don't do anything silly like admit to causing it. They're not about to waste time fingerprinting it anyway, you've already found they have a rather more cynical attitude to anti-social behaviour/crime than most people.
I feel for you anyway...I'd still be hopping mad by now (but the car would be long gone from my drive).0 -

About £70 where I live. But not in to the woods...just somewhere with parking restrictions. Not double yellows...the tow truck driver will smell a rat. The owner will thank you too, the flow of parking tickets through the letter box will let him or her know where there car has relocated too.
Thing is, this will probably be the result of stupidity, not malice. And is it harsh to punish people for their stupidity?0 -
I know ............. Why don't you ring your local Chief Constable (you will probably only get through to his PA) and say that his wife is engaging in an "Indecent Act" with a large dark haired man in the back of a VW Polo parked in your drive.
I bet a Police car will be there in minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

Have we maybe also reached the time when we can imagine the fire brigade saying rescuing kittens from trees and pumping out old ladies' flooded basements are also long since off the menu?
So next year perhaps we should also not be surprised when London Taxi drivers stop taking underprivileged kids on an annual outing to Southend ?
Taking one consideration with another, a policeman's lot is not a happy one - are we the least bit surprised?0
