TalkTalk website hit by cyber-attack

I don't blame TT for the attack.
I blame them for appearing to be lax with security and having a CEO who doesn't even know what was taken and what was encrypted/unencrypted. She should know or have been briefed by the person who is in charge of security with the full facts. There is not even "we're not sure what was taken but our normal procedures with regards to encryption are"...
Absolutely shocking and I hope she resigns.
Oh and as a TT household we've had NO notification so far.
I know they have 4m customers but they are also a technology firm in 2015! Emergency notification procedures would seem to need improvements as well!0 -
Well I was starting to look around at the other broadband suppliers before my current subscription runs out with Plusnet.
Well that's TT crossed off the list!
They could not run a p**s up in brewery!
Having said all that I do still own a couple of latent email accounts from the time they were Tiscali.
One of the accounts was from the old dial up to 1mb days. They can try and get money out of that, the bank account number has changed.
Mind you I will keep an eye out for any pesky person trying to grab my money. The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
I had to laugh when Dildo Harding made this comment ... "I'm a customer myself of TalkTalk, I've been a victim of this attack." And she's the Chief Executive. Oh well that makes it all right then.
Keep digging that hole lady!
I will only be happy when I see the gravestone! The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0 -
I received a email from talktalk on thursday, telling me about the company has been hacked. Watched the news yesterday, very little information given as to what information, how many customers are affected etc..... I am really concerned, is this not the third occassion talktalk has been successfully hacked????
i thought this company was meant to be a communication company, which specialzes in internet, broandband, tv and mobile???? surely the company should do betterTrinidad - I have a number of needs. Don't shoot me down if i get something wrong!!0 -
I left Talk Talk two years ago but was with them for five. Since then I have been issued a new debit card so I am hoping I will not be affected.0

Pretty concerning. My internet dropped out and a lot of sites weren't displaying correctly the other night, so I can assume this was the reason. Talktalk have shown many signs of being slightly incompetent and not planning ahead in the past as well - I remember when they ran a huge free promotion at their launch and couldn't keep up with the demand, many phonecalls to customer support ringing out and not connecting up peoples broadband lines. Thought they would've picked up their game 10 years later, but should've seen it coming really!0

I think many many people simply do not have enough perception as to what is going on out there and how exposed they might be.
The attackers could indeed be the spectre style cyber criminals as portrayed in the popular media and scaremongering media such as the Daily mail or it could be just a lone individual who is an ordinary man or woman in the street.
I'll give you two obvious examples i am aware of..
1) Wireless broadband routers with poor or no security on them. Did you know that an individual who is in range could log in to such a router and in some cases, from the data they can see, go on to find out lots of personal info about you?
2) Did you know that if you have a plug in network drive (NAS) that you could be sharing personal info out to the internet? Thousands of people are doing this right now and dont know it
3)File sharing software and similar,,again you could be sharing personal data with anyone who could browse it and you wouldnt even know it.
4)Computers in your home..if they all share the same router its possible for data on one to be browsed on another without you knowing.
Im not a cyber criminal but even i know all the above.
I know of several people who i would consider perfectly sane normal intelligent people who have been scammed either by phishing or vishing..commonly either by being lead to fake/duplicate websites of legitimate concerns (typically banks), or other similar frauds. I know two people who have paid out on the old microsoft anti virus phone call fraud.
Its never ending and technology and the internet provide fertile grounds for certain people to make a killing.
Its made worse by the fact that actually employees of major concerns are sometimes involved.
People in the Royal mail are committing fraud by accessing peoples mail
People who you buy stuff on line or over the internet can note down your info and use it or sell it on
The innocent person i a garage or restaurant could be taking a snapshot of your card with their iphone or skimming it.
We all need to be more careful because big banks know they have to tolerate a certain level of fraud loss to keep the whole thing churning on and the money coming in.
They will make sympathetic noises if you get scammed but its you who is left with the mess and yes, sometimes the loss..Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
just got my e-mail in spam;
they are THINKING of giving 12 months free credit monitoring for customers.
Big deal. I still cannot login;
Pass word still the same.etc.
What about old customers and if you leave, do they still monitor your credit free?
What a farce.
UNLESS the E-mail ain't from TT????????????
BUT, if they let me stay FREE,and I bet they beef up security now.??
After the fine.what does one do.
Mass Exodus, and company goes under.+ are the other companies next on the hit list.?;)0 -
"they are THINKING of giving 12 months free credit monitoring for customers"
A voucher for McDonalds would be more use.
Pathetic. Totally incompetent.
A compensation package is what we need for all this hassle they are putting us through.0 -

I'm a Talk Talk customer, I have my broadband with them - I was migrated over from AOL. When I opened my Talk Talk account, I certainly don't recall giving my date of birth.
I am a TT customer migrated from AOL, however it was such a long time ago that I signed up with AOL that I would not remember if I gave them date of birth. I never saw it on account screens.Pretty concerning. My internet dropped out and a lot of sites weren't displaying correctly the other night, so I can assume this was the reason.
Mine did too - Thursday daytimejust got my e-mail in spam;
Mine went into Spam too.
Oddly enough I logged into TT account on Tuesday and changed account it was taking DD from so don't know which account details hackers may have, have to assume both.0
