I have got the Huawei Ascend, it was my son's old phone, they have come down in price now and are quite cheap. I find it is fine for what I use it for.

  • If you can wait until the end of the month, there is the Wileyfox Storm for £199. I'm currently waiting for one to get delivered cos my Nexus 5 is getting a little long in the tooth and has a cracked screen. It has a good sized screen (if you like that sort of thing) decent processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage (expandable to 128GB) and runs Cyanogen OS 12.1 (Open Source Android).

Alternatively, do a Google for budget Android phone reviews and then go into the shops and see what you think when you hold them yourself.

Would be as slow as hell 4g storage not even that after operator software so about just over 2g storage and also a slow 1g dual core processor will be lagging like hell.

    Hi

A very good phone is the Windows 635 Lumia Phone! You can get it for £80 from Argos and it is 4G enabled with excellent features basically a laptop in your hand. The next is the 640 which is around £120! There isn't a need to spend 100s£s to get a great phone

I have just got in my hand here a Samsung J5 (its for someone else), about £155 for black, bit more for White - SIM free and 4G, 13MP camera.

Very, very nice. Running Lollipop but Samsung have tidied that up a bit so even better, extremely snappy and usual gorgeous Samsung AMOLED 5" screen, very rich. Touch screen is so sensitive. 7.9mm thick with 2600mah replaceable battery.

Popped a 64GB SD card in so that should last a while. The main spec. areas are befitting a more expensive phone, they just shaved a couple of bits off it nothing vital, like the soft-keys are not lit but still clear enough symbols and hasn't got some of the extra sensors like air pressure. But then has unusually a front flash too, for the 'selfie' generation.

Doesn't claim to have Gorilla Glass but it seems tough enough, there is a video on youtube of some nutter with a carving knife attacking it and its OK.

I know the recipient is going to be chuffed.
