Have you taken out any loans which have PPI insurance or had any flight delays in the last 6 years?

Popstess, then one thing you missed out on when renewing your insurance was to run the company through a cashback site such as 'Topcashback' or 'Quidco'. If the insurer featured on one of them, you could have obtained an online quote as a new customer and if cheaper than the renewal, purchased the insurance with the knowledge that it a few weeks you would get back some money.

I did this for my contents insurance and got £30 back. I then did it for my parents B&C insurance (sticking with the same insurer as they won't change). Saved them £127 PLUS got them a £50 food voucher AND £26 cashback for myself.
I then renewed my car insurance with the same insurer I used last year and got myself another £56 back.

No ppi's or flight delays I wish j had lol. I'd like to start a debt free diary on here can someone tell me what to do please?
  • It may be worth a try with the PPI. I thought I didn't have any but it turns out I did. It wasn't much, or for long, but definitely mis-sold as I didn't know I had it. I got £135 back (or should I say, I am due to get it back).
As for a diary - just go into the DFD section, and click on the 'new thread' button. I'll come along to cheer you on.

Thanks peeps!!! I'm proud of myself I had some clothes (a lot of clothes. I'm a shopaholic and addicted to clothes one of the reasons I'm in this mess.) In my bedroom sat in packets with tags on and I'd been meaning to package them up and return them for ages but kept avoiding it for some bizzare reason. (Horder perhaps?!) anyway tonight I've packaged them all up ready to return which I will do tomorrow. Any money that gets returned to my account from them I will put towards my debt hopefully get a few more 1%'s knocked off! I also spoke to my brother about Xmas and he said he'd be happy to give me money rather than presents and thinks my dad would too. So hopefully Xmas will help me chip away a bit too. I am going to actively start seeking a better paid job also as all these little changes will chip away but the biggest change I could make is increasing my income. Of course that cant possibly happen over night so I'm doing the small changes for now. Can't thank you enough for all your kind and supportive words

Can you try ppi claim even if you don't know what you'd be claiming for? I honestly can't think of anything I could of had it on

  • You ve just started a journey, lots of good advice already, one thing I d like to add is that it gets addictive, you ll find you are setting yourself targets, for example 20 gbp weekly shopping, i ll make 100 pounds by such a date.....There are lots of threads on here.I know it's a bit weird but it's fun and enlightening going back to basics in a way...

    Definitely not alone!
We have all either been there or still here and trying to chip away.
Everyone has different reasons for getting into debt in the first place, some are ashamed and some not.
As long as you start your journey with a plan, I'm sure you will find that you feel a little bit more in control of it - even when you have a knock back from time to time (such as the washing machine blowing up etc)!

I am actually enjoying making savings by shopping smarter, changing insurances and trying to make better decisions. Even my kids are doing their bit (walking home from school instead of taking the bus etc). At the same time, we are trying to teach them about money, APR's, loans etc so that they don't get into the same situation!

Best of luck - the support in here is second-to-none and I find that checking in each day for a quick read reminds me to keep on track!
