You are not alone there are thousands out there in debt. There is a company called National debtline 0808 808 4000 This service is free so you won't pay anything to them. They will give you advice and help you for free. Google them.

    Hi justice
Thank you I had a look at NDL there was lots of good advise on their website.

  • Hi Popstress

Well done for coming on here & facing your debt. You'll get so much advice on here & it really does help. My debt isn't as high as yours but my credit report meant I couldn't get any 0% deals or anything, but after just 2 months of following some of the advice on here & managing to make overpayments, my credit report improved enough to get a few 0% balance transfer deals so now all of my debt is on 0%, so every penny I pay is paying the debt and not interest :j

On the subject of friends/family, I just told people that I'd just had some expensive house repairs that had to go on my credit card so am now paying that back and trying to save up in case anything similar happens again. Nobody asked and actually as many others on here have said, it has opened up a conversation about money and actually surprised me how many people are worried about their financial position.

It's now just become another lifestyle to me now. Everything I buy I always check to see if I can get any better deals or any discounts. I've been doing a lot of Christmas shopping lately, which I have actually saved up for this year, but everything I've bought has had some sort of discount, whether that be a discount code from the retailer or I've held out on buying and then bought them when the retailer has had a sale. Insurance renewals are always thoroughly researched and never auto renewed, I also check cashback sites to see if I can get any cashback when renewing and always use the cashback sites when shopping online.

I've also started using Lidl now. I've been on this site for ages but only recently started using Lidl and was pleasantly surprised. I mainly buy fruit & veg from there but it works out a lot cheaper and the quality is just as good as the main 4 supermarkets.

Ive tried to reply to you all individually but Im struggling with the quote and multi quotes.

Thank you again for all your replies I no longer feel "alone" a little overwhelmed yes but not alone.
I need to tackle this bite by bite or I fear I will get overwhelmed and give up. Not that giving up is really an option as that will only land me in even more debt.

Things are actually worse than when I first posted as I had missed off the fact I owed money on a next directory and buy now pay later on a very account.

I need to sit down and do my SOA I had a go but got confused when trying to work out how much to set aside for the adhoc payments.

I also don't really understand my APR and interest rates.
    I have a loan which I think is 9.9%
    two 0% credit cards
£250 on next not sure what the interest rate is or where to find that info
Tesco cc I don't know what the interest is
and my very on buy now pay later so effectively 0% at the moment

    I'm in such a mess aren't I what a fool I've been :(

    hi,
do you have any statements? The APR will probably be on the back of those. Next is 25.99% (that's their standard APR).
With the SOA look at all your payments and even with the ad hoc ones like car tax, birthday's, haircut divide by 12 for the monthly cost.
Good luck, as soon as SOA is posted I'm sure you'll get loads of advice

    Popstress,

Tough choices lie ahead for you, I know its not an easy place to be right now, but you must not think of yourself as a victim, or a failure, because of your financial failings, right now, you need to think long and hard about how you intend to tackle this.

You have various options available to you, right now, your credit file should be the last of your worries, make 100% sure you budget for all your essential payments, mortgage/rent/council tax etc, your unsecured credit payments can wait a while.

If it were me, I would cease all non essential payments for a couple of months, to assess were I stand, total up everything you owe, and make a plan of action.

Hi Sourcrates, I'm not sure what you mean about my credit rating being the least if my worries right now? I don't think I've said I'm worrying about my credit rating?

I have cut all non essential direct debits will start working on the rest.
What's the difference between non secured and secured? Am I right in thinking my mortgage is secured but my Halifax loan, credit cards and shopping accounts are unsecure?

I didn't mean to come across like a victim I'm well aware my debt is my own doing and no one else's fault by my own it hasn't been done to me that's for sure.

I'm working on my soa's I will post it on here when I have it worked out hopefully later tonight and my plan of action is to use the snowball system paying off my highest interest first. I've kinda put the loan to the bottom of my list as its a fixed rate every month anyway.
I want to concentrate on getting my cc's paid off before the interest comes on the 0% ones (hopefully I'll be able to transfer the debt over onto another 0% card before that time comes)

I know you didn't mention credit rating specifically, but lots of people worry more about that, than tackling the debt, your mortgage is secured on your home, I think you would know if your loans were or not.
