    Awww I love asparagus but have developed an intolerance to the fresh spears :( I see Iceland actually now do frozen ones but I don't know whether to try them or not - the past two times I've had the spears my face has come up within minutes in hives - doesn't last long but I'm cautious of pushing my luck and having a more severe reaction.

    Actually Iceland seem to be expanding their 'posh veg' range so keep an eye out. I know what you mean about finding frozen cauli mushy for a cauli cheese - I bought some smartprice broccoli / cauli ages ago and the bits were so small they went mushy. It was a long time ago though so could be worth a revisit.

    I don't think your DS liking plain things is uncommon - would he perhaps take some plain pasta with a little spoon of sauce at the side, or 'de-constructed' shepherds pie - mash with some mince at the side? things that you could make for both of you but serve slightly differently? I used to like my foods separate and still eat them in order of preference, so although I like lasagne I'll usually flip the top sheet over for last, then scrape the mince off the pasta, then the pasta itself, then the top layer with the white sauce. :o

    Yea I do that kind of thing but it's hard work and can be expensive but I guess I just need to get creative! I wish he would eat deconstructed shepards pie but not a chance!
    He is getting better just need to keep encouraging him.
    The thing is I can't use his fussy eating as an excuse I just need to get creative. I'm going to try and get to Aldi tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it. There super six this week sounds great all veg I would eat (mind you I eat pretty much anything lol I'm a right fat piggy) and most veg my boy will eat apart from beat root really.

    Ps be careful with asparagus when we allergic to something our bodies will take a little bit fight it again again until one day it says woah no more and you have a really bad reaction. That's why we can something be allergic to something we've been using for years and years. It can happen with things like acrylic nails, fake tan all sorts.

    Ok I'm going to blow your minds...
    Defrost your veg in tepid, slightly salted tap water before cooking. Dry before boiling( I shake them in a colander then pay them with a paper towel)
    Tastes like fresh.

    Omg mind officially blown!!!!! :shocked::shocked::shocked::shocked:

    I will be sure to give that a go thanks for the great tip! x

    Thanks Popstess I will be careful with the asparagus. I read up on it a bit and it seems some pockets get allergic reactions from handling it, the young shoots are the worst apparently. Boiling can help but obviously I didn't boil enough in my case. I've had asparagus in things since with no ill effect. Oddly thinking about it, I'm sure the reaction has been to shop bought asparagus whereas before I'd picked some at a PYO near us, but again, probably near the end of the season so it was more mature. I could think of worse things to have a reaction to, but I did like it as my 'spring is here' treat when in season.

    At least DS isn't fussy when it comes to veg, brownie points to him there. Good luck with the super 6 (no aldi really close enough to me but lidl seem to have stated doing four veg on offer each week so I tend to go for those and get creative). I'll be trying CH1979 veg tip too.
